In the Edgar Payne landscape notan, I realize that the mid value est far too light

I think a similar thing is going on in the Cornwell study. The middle value being so close to the lightest value makes the image high key. If you bump down the two lower values and keep the lightest value concentrated mainly to the shape of the window, you'll have it!

Definitely not easy. As long as you have the reference in front of you, it's fine, you feel like remembering every single detail. Once you hide the reference image, most of it, if not all, is gone :-(

Just wondering on how that works if a box has the two vanishing points on the left, or on the right of the cube...
Could someone give an example?

Done all of them. Not always easy to find the gesture. Some at level 2 as well.
Tired of seals and sea lions :-)

I worked on the portrait reference. Still a lot of improvements to be done. Therefore, lot of practice seems a basic requirement! Pretty happy with mouth, nose and eyes while overall proportions are off

I don't have the tools to do an overlay but I think I've done okay. I got a bit frustrated towards the end so I ended up eyeballing more than I probably should have.
My biggest frustration was how to block in the nose.

Definitely, not an easy one. Struggling to find the right spots and units... difficult to understand when things go wrong...
