Use the 3 references provided to push and pull the forms to stylize the face, and paint/render them the best you can. It’s okay if they’re not perfect, we all have to start somewhere! If you’d like to use your own reference resource, feel free to.
Did some self critiques and revisions after watching the week 7 critique. Main things where:
* I didn't really stylize the forms at all (I think I forgot :P), and the colour/lighting stylizing could've been pushed further
* When stylizing, exaggerating existing characteristics in a model is generally more effective than going against them
* The dynamic range was a little flat, needed more contrast
* Making sure the 3d forms are reading well is more important than trying to replicate what you see in the reference
Also unrelated, I figured out my painting software export settings wrong, the export was more desaturated and had less contrast then the preview :') but thats all fixed now
I think I misunderstood the assignment when starting out. I was trying to be too faithful to the original. By the last (and most purple) one, I started stylizing the lighting and colors
Having trouble painting directly with shapes and color. Will try again another time.
Very fun assignment. Instead of using just the Alla Prima Technique I decided to explore different ways of rendering and styles. I especially like what @9brookskim (on Instagram) does for their process and tried it myself in the last portrait.
