My loomis head!
LESSON NOTES

It can be difficult for sculptors to get the shape of the skull correct, but we can avoid a lot of mistakes by learning about the Loomis head! In this lesson you’ll learn about the importance of the Loomis method and how to construct a Loomis head by using simple forms and measuring landmarks. Without this method you might find yourself sculpting a skull improperly which can lead to an unintentionally askew face later on. If you enjoy this lesson check out the links below to learn more about it.

Hello, for now I only intend to document my process. The simplified form of skelly, armor also from Loomis in his book "the figure in all its value" of the skeleton serves me very well as a block. I also added Loomis' head, pelvis and a mini portrait of Apollo. Only the vertebral column and the head are made of aluminum frame hanging from another. The extremities are not subject to anything, I simply wanted to give expression to the masses

Nicely done I'm liking what I'm seeing from your recent works. It's great to see that you're starting to apply the anatomy of these primary forms to the figure and the proportion and structure is feeling good. Keep going!

At first I tried making this with the cheap plasticine (sold for schools, kids) and failed terribly as the longer you work the warmer it becomes. At the end I mixed that cheap clay with 30% wax (beeswax + candlewax) and ended up getting a very workable mixture. Quite happy with this! Thanks for the demos.

Yes I prefer a firmer clay too especially when working smaller. Great job! Keep it up!
