I had such a hard time. I dont know if it is my pencil or paper. I had to go really hard to make it dark and it still doesnt look dark. Same with the charcoal that i use. What do you guys use?for paper and pencil
Hey Nicole, good attempt! If you are going to use charcoal (imho) the only choice is smooth (it is important it is smooth, textured will make it much harder to get smooth tone) newsprint.
For Charcoal pencils... it used to be Conte a Paris but they have changed their manufacturing recently and I see a lot of broken charcoal... alternatives I like are Marie's soft and General's 4b.
For graphite if you want a dark pencil Blackwing Matte's or 602's are what I like... 602's are harder (so not as dark) but are a nice "do it all" whereas the Matte's get some nice darks but wear pretty fast on a lot of paper.
Also it can help to use a paper stump or chamois (and of course practice laying down flat, even tone regularly)
Hi, this is my first attempt to draw hair. I found it challenging but interesting at the same time. Would appreciate some feedback.
This lesson would be helped with a clearer reference photo--one where the hair is discernible across the entire drawing as opposed to using a photo with a model with dark hair against a dark background in which most of the back of the head is lost.
Today's assignment. Thanks to anyone would kindly give me a feedback. Thanks again and have a good day!!
I'm guessing I should have started with a simpler form and contrast but I'd like feedback on reducing the wormy look here. Rewatching the video, I can see i started with strands instead of shadows.
