ASSIGNMENTS
Slowing my brain down to Measure and check angles is a challenge. My hands and eyes just wanna go go go.
I got this assignment all wrong. I worked all my measurements using the reference image on my screen. I do not have a printout of the reference image to lay on top of my drawing. I could do it again, but I would like to move on as well. I did learn a lot more about different ways to measure. So that was helpful.
Hello Dorian, you've mentioned a cheat sheet or PDF that accompanies this course. Where do I find that item? Thanks.
HI @Malakai King You can find the "Cheat Sheets" in the lessons listed on the top right of this page, or the first one here: https://www.proko.com/course-lesson/accuracy-cheat-sheet/downloads
Hi there! My name is Buddy. I'm trying to solidify my drawing skills by learning the fundamentals. And what better way to learn it than by using this site with all these handy courses!
Here is my accuracy exercise. I printed the original and attempted a 1:1 copy in my sketchbook using a mechanical pencil. I spent some time on this. I laid out the major shapes last Sunday. Then, during the work week, I would refine the proportions a little each night. I put in the details Friday night and Saturday morning.
In the overlap comparison, the red lines represent my drawing and the blue lines the original. It seems that my tendency was to overestimate horizontal distances by about 1.0mm to 3.0mm. I also overexaggerated the pointiness of the corners in places.
I will continue to intentionally practice the accuracy techniques outlined in this lesson moving forward.
So my guys got a big head, but he deserves it. He's a great guy. XD That was quite the challenge!
I'm getting how to find the proportions of a side by side drawing. I found the Glasses very helpful, I'm still not clear on translating the size of things that are farther away onto the paper and how to make those things bigger or smaller than they actually are. Is that more about perspective? Sorry, I am an absolute newbie to drawing. I've learned most of what I know from youtube and have no formal art training. Thanks!
If you want to control the size of your drawing and make it bigger or smaller than what you are seeing, you still use these techniques. But instead of trying to directly use the same measurement on your paper as you see in life, you will scale it accordingly. For example say the one on the left is life and the one on the right is the size you want to draw. I've marked the center line of both in green. From there, divide the top half into 3rds to find about where the chin falls. See how it doesn't matter that they are different sizes? The center of the drawing is still the same on both figures as is the 1/3 of the top half. You will still go through and measure things out. But now you will have to think proportionally and in percentages. I hope that makes sense.
Apart from this demonstration image, do you have suggestions for what kinds of drawings we can use to test out these methods? I am a beginner and I worry that I'll get overwhelmed if I try something too complex.
Hi, same here! I would practice drawing primitive shapes, starting from on object to imply what dorin said. you can find free pack here https://www.geoartref.com/l/aqJO
