Love the class so far! I also wanted to try to learn ProCreate while doing the assignments!! 😅

Chose my own reference for this one. Photograph by Arcady Shaikhet (1898-1959). I think I could have worked on it more and put in some more detail, but since it was so complex I also knew I had to stop somewhere. I’d love some suggestions on how it could be improved :)

That's a very well done composition value study. I don't know the objectives of the exercise, since I don't have the course. You were faithful to the photo while simplifying. I still see some complexity in places that could have been simplified even further.

Heres my Thumbnail, i might of crept a bit past 5 on the value scale

I tried to simplify on this one, using 'layers' and big forms at the beginning. Took me 'bout 1,30h.

Did two just because I wasn’t happy with the first one. Watercolor
Rachel Dawn Owens
That second one is incredible. The rhythm of the shapes is really really cool

I'm finding these exercises a lot of fun to do, but I didn't think drawing the support rods would be so difficult.

I must say the architecture was a bit tricky to understand. I just tried to draw what I saw. I could have darkened my cast shadows a bit. I really like that light values are perceived as dark in relation to lighter values. The dark around the horses in the demo video are perceived as black, even though they are light grey. It almost feels like a trick, because it is not possible to see that way in real life. We always see in full value range.

I used graphite pencils 6H, 4H, 2H, and B to recreate the image. I am not sure if I got the value right or not but I really enjoyed the assignment. Thank you #ideacraft

Had fun trying out brushes I don’t typically use to resolve some of the striations on the rock walls.

I am sticking with using Procreate for the thumbnail in high values to make it easier to compare with the previous assignment. I really like this way of working with the value sets really helps me focus.

Experimenting with not zooming in ‘while working on thumbnail type of drawing 🤔 [to not overdetail]

Impression of the reference. As far as I’m able to use Procreate. I’m sure there’s a lot more possible to make this better.

Went digital on this assignment, still learning the program so it look a little longer than expected. Eye dropper and lasso tools were very much appreciated for this one.
Sterling Hundley
The lasso tool- highly underrated. Nice work @edel82 If you bring the value closer together on that inner shadow, it may have a bit of a unifying effect on the overall shape of the barn.

I wanted to add the darkest dark and use more values. So this was limiting. But I think I caught the most important points.
Sterling Hundley
You did a nice job with this @Basak

No comment lol
Sterling Hundley
@shayy02 I went into your painting with a bit of line and defined a few planes. I had to push it darker into the shadows with an overall multiply layer first, and then painted some of the lights and details back in. It's a good start, and a big part of this is just figuring out where the information is needed.
Fran Turner
I mixed up puddles of gray paint and matched them to my Value Chart, so they must be right, but yet they look wrong and I don’t seem to have them properly balanced. I guess I just need more practice.
Sterling Hundley
@Fran Turner Just remember that all values are relative and it's very hard to gauge them when they are not right next to each other. The value may be a bit dark for high key painting, but you still ended up with a nice little painting. Is this in gouache? Gouache and acrylics both dry darker, as well.
