I'd like to try my hand at these. Are there photo references available or should I just use the video?

Hey guys, I need extra info. Maybe it's a language barrier thing (I'm a french canadian, billingual but still). I get all of them except one, what is a "chonky blaster gun" ? I've even google it and ... I'm still not sure of what it is.

Chonky typically means big, massive, fat, bulbous, etc. Look up chonky cats to get an idea.

I tried for a lanky character, a short grumpy dwarf-type character, and a fat kid playing with Lego. They turned out to be more like rock people than ginger root. I didn't use any photographs for poses. I used Procreate. I am pretty sure this is my first actual digital piece. I had fun learning how to customize brushes and shortcuts for adding new layers and merging them back down.

Hi there, didn't have much time for this project, but here are my attempts. All of them are from imagination while looking at images of ginger root to try and get the feel right. The last image with the knights are inspired from the character Nightmare from the "Soul Calibur/Soul Edge" series of games, although not from a particular design of the character.

The shell looks like fun subject for this exercise. You did a great job capturing it.

Hopefully I am still in time to submit ! It felt difficult to me when the cross contour line direction change. I have to make one of them straight and loose the 3D feeling. I have also tried to put everything together with line weight, gesture and shape design. Please let me know what you think about it :) In any case, I am very happy with it ! I remember previous lessons with the snail, sea lions etc. I feel way more comfortable drawing new animals than before ! I took many online drawing lesson but this one is the one that show the most improvement, I guess I needed some drawing basics 😅

Great job on these! I love the frog the most. I think the turtle looks the cleanest but the frog looks the most adorable.

Nice job on the form intersections. It seems like you could still use some work on the ellipses. The endcaps on your cots and a few cylinders flatten a bit at the ends, like footballs. Try to take a more direct picture and get closer in next time. It is hard to really see details to give a critique. For that same reason, if this is A4 paper then I'd recommend drawing larger and just using more pages to get the same amount of practice.

I see this is a presale. There are assignments. Will there be student critiques provided as the course is released? Similar to how Stan does with his courses as he rolls them out.

Thank you for this video and the very clear explanations. I think I understand all the individual rules for line weights, but I struggle when I try to combine different sets of rules when drawing. For example: a cube sitting on the ground. Everything thick for the outlines: okay - but then it fights an ambient occlusion approach, that would tell me to make a thin or no line at all at the edge "touching" the ground. I tried to reverse engineer the rules of how other artists solve this, but I never got any universal solution out of it. Any ideas?

That is interesting. From what I've seen AO is often approximated with a thicker line where it touches the ground; to represent less light reaching down into crevices.
