This assignment was really difficult for me. Hands are the bane of my artistic existence. This was way harder than the box head assignment (which I forgot to post). I did the level 1 assignment. I attempted the level 2 assignment by trying to use my hand as a model. But that didn't go all that well. I will go through all the hand lessons Stan listed, but that's going to take me a while. Here are my boxy hands for now:

It's there - I only did one for level 2. It's supposed to be a different view of the hand in the middle. Level 2 is the hand in the bottom right corner.

First off, it looks like my scanner bit the dust. Took pictures with my phone and lousy lighting, so these aren't the best. Anyway, I started with 5 minute poses. Two minutes is just not enough time for me. The last pose is a little over 10 minutes.

The first page has 3 min sketches. That was fun, even though they look like scribbles. The second page took about 20 min.

I opted for 5 minute poses. Well, that's what I set the timer for. Most actually took a little longer.

Again, set the timer for 1 hour and went for it. Good grief this was difficult! Spent well over an hour on it.

I set the timer for an hour, picked a pose and just went for it. I focused on the torso.

Today I found myself completely frustrated with these. Here are some 5 minute quick sketches. I also did a 20 minute sketch, but it's way to awful to post.

The first one took way longer than 25 min. The second was about 25 min.

Well, here are my hands. The first page is are 5 minute (more or less) warm-ups using the reference pack. The last one is a 20 minute study of my hand. Oh boy, was it hard to hold my hand still!

Here are my attempts. The first four are five minute warm-ups. The last one is 25 min.

Here is a kitchen with an impractical sink. (Level 1) I wasn't too creative with the sink, just stuck it in the corner. This assignment was difficult without a ruler. My lines are way off of being straight or plumb. I'm off to work on the level 2 assignment.

And here is the Level 2 assignment. Drawing guidelines first helped. I'm still having issues drawing straight lines and plumb lines. The doors are pretty wonky.

Thank-you everyone for your input and kind words! Without a ruler, this was really difficult for me. Next time I will draw all my lines to the vanishing point. I was trying to estimate where my lines would go without trying to draw all the way to the vanishing point. Thank-you again!

Black Friday for the win! I'm looking forward to this course. Been wanting to purchase it for awhile. Here are 3 Loomis head drawings to get started with the class. Straight on isn't too bad, but 3/4 and profile need more work.

Asked for help
I was away on vacation, and I have only been working on this a few days. This was difficult, but I will keep practicing. Some were really awful. These are the "best" of the bunch. They are all 5 minutes or so.

Been working on this assignment for the last few days. I'm only posting some of them (level 1), the better ones I think. Also there are 4 from memory/imagination (level 2). That was difficult.

I did another portrait. Proportions were way off. Did corrections based on the previous demo. Still off. This is just going to take a lot of practice.

Thank-you for your input! I'm having a hard time seeing the large shapes in the face. And I forgot about checking for directions of lines. This is incredibly difficult.

Even with all the measuring, mine was still off. A lot. Based on the previous video, I made corrections in red (even then I still had problems). I find everything about portraits hard.

I went back and made changes to the drawing. It was bugging me. It looks better, not perfect but better.
