THe basic idea and layout is great. I did a quick sketch myself to show you how I would approach the composition and colour sketch. Mostly I would shuffle things around so that they are working together instead of separate pieces that happen to be in the same image. Such as taking the butterflies in the corner and using them as a visual pathway across the image. Creating more space on the canvas to emphasise the vastness of the sky etc… even some colour contrast and warm hue in the light to make sure there is some drama.

Don’t fear the things that make a portrait really interesting: freckles, dark shadows, creases, pimples, scars, pores, oiliness, asymmetry, discolouration, etc…

It looks amazing. Stylized, sure, but really good.

Good job so far. What catches my eye the most is that there appears to be sun and sky lighting the croc, as well as a little ambient bounce light. Whereas the ground is only recieving light from the sun. Its like the croc and ground don't share the same value-space.

The main thing that stands out to me is the tonal variation in the skin shadows everywhere but the nose, which is just red. And I feel like a little light reflecting off of the eyelashes on the dark side of the face would add some extra depth. That being said, this is amazing! Good job.

That sharp edge cutting through the middle that gives the illusion of being a horizon line but in the wrong place. If you painted it out it would actually improve the perspective and realism a lot. The next thing I would say is add atmospheric depth. As Dan B pointed out. Giving a soft blue/cyan fade the further away things are will give a real sense of depth. If you don't want to use perspective, it is (usually) necessary to use that technique in order to give a sense of scale to your landscapes. Alternately, you can use different colours. But those colours will change the time of day, and should also be reflected in your over-all colour temperature.
