The Drawing Laboratory
December 4th
Join award-winning instructor Brent Eviston, in his most immersive and in-depth drawing experience yet. Students are invited into Brent’s studio to experience some of the clearest and most effective drawing instruction available.
With more than 25 years of teaching experience, Brent has identified one key difference between those who improve and those who don’t, having the right structured process.
What You’ll Learn Inside
The Complete Drawing Laboratory gives you four sequential parts designed to build your skills in the right order, no guesswork, no missing pieces. Just consistent progress and real artistic transformation.
HOW TO DRAW: A BEGINNER'S GUIDE - A complete overview of the drawing process from basics to shading.
DRAWING IN 3 DIMENSIONS - Learn to use perspective and many other 3D drawing techniques.
THE LANGUAGE OF LINE - Learn to draw with expressive and descriptive lines and marks.
SHADING: LEARN TO DRAW WITH DRAMATIC LIGHT AND SHADOW - Learn to shade any subject no matter how complex.
Each lesson's lecture is accompanied by Brent demonstrating how to apply the concepts he just taught and ends with a specially designed assignment to help you practice those concepts on your own.
As an ADDED BONUS for Proko students, Brent will be doing a livestream video critique in February 2026 (exact date is TBD).
Part 1 - How to Draw: A Beginner's Guide
Drawing is not a talent, it's a skill you can learn.
You’ll learn how to:
- Draw and simplify subjects using basic shapes
- Start with light, adjustable lines
- Measure and maintain proper proportions
- Use expressive, descriptive marks
- Add detail, texture, and value
- Embrace mistakes as learning opportunities
By the end of this part you’ll be able to draw any subject from simple shapes with accurate proportions and confident lines, and you’ll actually enjoy the process.
Part 2 - Drawing in 3 Dimensions
Transcend the flatness of the page and learn to create dramatic three dimensional drawings.
You’ll learn how to:
- Draw basic 3D forms like spheres, cylinders, and cubes
- Use 1, 2, and 3-point perspective for realistic depth
- Simplify and draw any subject accurately in 3D space
By the end of this part, you’ll have a solid understanding of how to create convincing depth and form in your drawings. You’ll know how to use perspective and 3D shapes to make any subject look believable and dynamic on the page.
Part 3 - Language of Line
Learn to draw with descriptive and expressive lines and marks.
You’ll learn how to:
- Draw expressive lines that capture attention and build your style
- Use varied line qualities: soft to hard, light to dark, thick to thin
- Create accurate contours with depth and three-dimensional form
- Add textures and convey emotion
- Suggest time and motion through line work
By the end of this part you will have a new understanding of how powerful lines and marks can be, what they communicate and how to use them in your drawings.
Part 4 - Shading: Learn to Draw with Dramatic Light and Shadow
Create stunning drawings with brilliant light and dark, rich shadow.
You’ll learn how to:
- Shade basic 3D forms and separate light from shadow
- Draw core, reflected, and cast shadows
- Use full value range and crosshatch effectively
- Shade on colored paper
- Follow a repeatable shading process
By the end of this part you will have a deep understanding of light and shadow and you’ll have a straightforward shading process you can apply to any subject, no matter how complex.
