overview

Cinematography for Artists is actually two courses in one. You'll get over 16 hours of video instruction about photography, videography, cinematography, storyboarding, storytelling and how to use all of these to advance your art. This is not your normal photography course as it is specifically tailored to artists, illustrators, painters, 3d artists and animators. We'll really focus on visual storytelling and the craft of how cinema works.

Do you need a camera for this course? Nope! Most of this course could be done with just your phone camera. But we will dive pretty deeply into how more advanced cameras work and what they look like in your images. Even if you do not buy any equipment this course will be great for your art. Understanding how films are made can really advance your ability to tell stories in your art.

In part one, Photography for Artists, we'll show you everything you need to know about how the camera can be a powerful tool for artists. We'll show how to find shots and what makes great compositions. We'll talk about how the technology works and how to use it to capture reference for your art. We'll show how to light and shoot still lives, portraits, landscapes, nature, stars and more. We'll start with still images and then move on to videography. We have traveled the world while making this course and have so much unique content to share. Lastly we'll talk about how to apply the concepts learned into more advanced cinematography and multi-shot sequences.

In part two, Cinematic Storytelling,  we'll dive deeper into narrative filmmaking. Taking everything you've learned about photography we will now craft short films, guiding you through every step. From outlining, screenwriting, production planning, acting, shooting, sorting, editing, color grading and even visual effects, we'll show you all of the steps needed to tell your stories. It will start simple where everyone can easily be a part, and advance to more complex productions. All the software needed to complete this course is free (Davinci Resolve), so all you need is a phone camera and a computer. We'll even provide professional quality footage that you can edit and experience a taste of real film production.
