For the monkey element of this piece, I didn't want just one type. I found a bunch of references to create a chaotic, bizarre look. In this lesson, I’m sketching multiple monkeys with their own unique outfits to add to the narrative. You’ll see me design a ringleader with a top hat and cane, a clown monkey with a painted face, and even a judgmental one watching the chaos unfold.
I focus on capturing the cute but mischievous nature of these characters. I also explain how to filter through overwhelming references to find exactly what fits your scene. We work on poses where they are gripping the horse or causing trouble to build that story of a circus gone wrong.
