my terminator line assignments. Is the terminator on the apple look like that because of the form, or is it because the skin of the apple is reflective ? Any feedbacks will be greatly appreciated.

Terminator probably looks like that due to reflection off the table.

Hey Samuel! Nice job, and congrats on starting Dorian's shading course--it's super informative and useful :) In regards to the apple, it's a bit of a tricky situation but the terminator line would continue in its original curve just like it would on a sphere. It just happens that due to the strong direct light and light ground surface (the desk), the bounce light is especially strong, but it would still be considered part of the shadow group. If you color pick from the light side and the bounce light area, the bounce light is still darker than the light. Good work on the rest of the studies--and for the plant, I know it can be difficult to deal with a complicated group of shapes like that, but it can help to start with a general, simplified shape of the plant as a whole, then break it down into small groups of leaves, rather than drawing one by one.

I Feel like I didn't do good shapes on the cap but then started to experiment more with the onion.

Me: The Terminator couldn't stick around but said "I'll be back" Everyone: Boooooooo. We have read better jokes in those free news papers.

Very Well done!! I like the simplicity. that's what I think he really wants, not focusing on the drawing. Good Job!!

Fun but also challenging. May find it difficult to decide where to draw the line. Question: is it an estimate or more definitive? Or to put it this way - how many level differences of shadow can be accommodated within the boundary? In my opinion, I prefer to mark only the darkest parts that are almost completely dark. How should I think? The pictures may not match exactly where I stood/sat. If someone can answer me I would be grateful! Thanks!

There are lighter parts in the shadow area where there's reflective light, but it's still in the shadow - i.e., the light source does not directly cast light on it. This whole shadow area is what we're looking for here :)

It's very cool to see how the drawing even without great rendering, if the terminator and perspective are correct, they'll end up looking pretty nice.

taking it slow, only worrying about 2 values and throwing down the form shadow and cast shadow for now.

Terminator study assignment. The perspective and drawing aren’t the same as my subject’s poses but I tried match the light direction and terminator placement best I could. I don’t always feel certain that what I’m interpreting as the terminator isn’t just the dark halftones.

Cool studies! The terminators look good to me. You could gain in realism and 3D effect by varying your edge qualities: hard or soft, according to the forms of the surfaces: soft edges for round surfaces, hard edges for angles
