I'm already drawing heads better than before. And coming from the How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way book I can confirm what Patrick talks about. It's extremely valuable to be able to see how the instructor gets to the final drawing. Patrick's mastery of drawing the human anatomy has simplified the process for me. I'm only on the 1st potion and getting this much value! Looking forward to the rest
during this exploration of Mr T and Mrs V, when you're drawing, is your hand slightly resting on the paper as you draw. I've been trying to draw with the grip that youre using, and it's very difficult without stabilization
This. Course. Is. Awesome! Especially if thinking in boxes and heads has been an issue in the past. MORE than worth the $$!
I'm a wrist-heavy artist by nature; my arm practically never moves. I found the tool handling exercises very freeing and eventually more controlled. I think I got frustrated by the charcoal material at first but found my rhythm. I'm looking forward to doing these exercises later until they're second-nature!
I started the training today and my work so far. Frankly, I thought I wouldn't be able to do it before I picked up the pen, but it was a very enjoyable training, I thank the trainer very much.
very fun to draw alongside this lesson, hope i can get cleaner and more confident marks as we progress!
I got the Conte a Paris Pierre Noire and I love the black color. However, mine tends to have some grit from time to time even after I sharpen it with a razor blade and sand paper. I’ll draw with it for a bit until I get that “scratchy” sound and I have to go onto some scratch paper to work it out.
Do any of you have that issue? Or am I just not sharpening it correctly?
Yes I have the same problem, and I find it very frustrating to work with this pencil (1710 B/2B/3B). I have previously used the Faber Castell Pitt Charcoal (soft), and whilst it was extremely soft and quite difficult to make a light line with, I much prefer it to the 1710.
@Patrick Jones do you have a recommendation for how to handle this pencil? Is the grittiness to be expected?
Tried to apply some of the things I learned in the first lesson to some made up figures aswell as some from reference.
wasn't able to get in as many studies as I wanted but enjoyed the process and using charcoal for the first time in over a decade...or more
Messy first day🫠 will be working on 90gsm paper with an 8B graphite (closest that I have for now 😅). Loving all of the neat mnemonics!💯😃
The first 20 minutes was worth 10 k in knowledge. I was like a kid with new toys. I didn't want to go to sleep. I wanted to keep playing. You are amazing, Patrick.
Apprentice here, just watched the first lesson and I'm really excited to get started! Will be drawing along later when I get more time however I don't have charcoal and have never used it before since I'm just starting out. Is it essential to work with charcoal to get the most out of this course?
I'm comfortable with graphite pencil and mostly work with that for now but also trying to learn some other mediums namely ink, wash and gouache.
Tried out the overhand grip with my mechanical graphite pencil. Pretty happy with the result, will need more time to get accustomed to the grip though.
