LESSON NOTES
Sanford Greene tackles the early design phase, which is crucial for creating unique silhouettes and traits for characters, even with similar builds. Take Daredevil, Iron Fist, Captain America, and Black Panther as examples. You’ll see how adjusting their physical attributes—like height, build, and special features—helps differentiate them and reflect their abilities. This means considering their backgrounds, like Daredevil's agility and boxing skills, to emphasize their uniqueness. This design step is vital for making characters that stand out and stay true to their stories.

Here, I aimed to simplify and focus on the silhouettes of the characters. Often, a single feature defines a comic figure, such as Wolverine's claws or Loki's horns. I chose characters with distinct physical traits to make them easily recognizable.
Did I miss something crucial for the silhouettes? Any suggestions for improving the silhouettes are welcome.
The goal of this study was to draw dynamic poses and make each silhouette unique. I aimed to keep it simple and followed the design pattern of Big, Medium and Small. Do you have any recommendations for making the silhouettes more distinctive? Which silhouette appeals most to you: A-E
I really enjoyed Sanford Green’s style in Power Man and Iron Fist #1 , I’m excited to see his process and how he works with character body language.
