Thank you for this wonderful course!
First I watched the demo.
This morning I worked from the photo myself. Right image is traditionally with charcoal pencil 2b, a different brand which seems more like graphite. Background is done with a darker and softer kind.
The image at the bottom is finished with some smudging and brushes in Procreate.
LESSON NOTES
I use Bridgman references to map out forms, edges, and values on a torso, clarifying how muscles intertwine under strong lighting.
COMMENTS
Here are my drawings. I already finished Stan‘s Anatomy course to understand anatomy (though your are never really finished;)). I was struggling with edge control. Jeff‘s sharpening video on top of stan‘s video helped me leap forward regarding that. I see where Jeff was inventing and designing shapes. That is what I want to get better at - and then the ridiculous speed! This took me hours when Jeff keeps it at 40 minutes. Stunning!
These are my follow along drawings for the previous Bridgman translation drawing lesson and the photo interpretation drawing for this lesson. I have had the Watts on Bridgman Torso book for a couple years, so I have drawn both of these several times in the past and no two look exactly the same. I have the 5th edition Bridgman’s Complete Guide to Drawing from Life. These drawings are on page 131 of that book. I like the fact that there are three simplified versions of the masses of the torso using big basic shapes and then a more detailed finished version of the torso in the Bridgman book. I find the Bridgman book to be hard to understand just reading and looking at the drawings. Every time I draw an image from the book, I tend to have an “Ah Ha” moment that I have not realized before. My charcoal work definitely needs improvement. As usual, critiques are always welcome and appreciated. Cheers!
I think it's a very good attempt
Proportion-wise, value-wise, anatomy-wise everything is working. If I had to critique something, I would critique the design of the obliques/serratio in the right side of the figure based on Yoni. I know that part of the photo looks confusing but as an artist part of your job is to tap in your knowledge of anatomy and your sense of aesthetics and design and organize it to look nice.
It's possible that you may not find a solution for now and that's totally ok. Don't get frustrated. Move on to the next exercise and return to this later. This knowledge builds on experience.
Keep drawing and best regards
yo this is difficult af, i am going to next one with these drawn,... holy moly this is cool stuff though
I'm sorry for another pic but this one is from my view while I draw, which is a bit slanted. I'm trying to get the photo right and will be more careful from now on as I better know how now.
Im a beginner just learning edges. I thought this course would be good to add to my course load. I am pleased with my results. I am definitely learning. Here are my results from videos 3 and 4.
I tried to concentrate on the core and cast shadows and how they work on the form. The charcoal pencil is hard to control - this took me ages!
Very well done!
Yesterday I gave it another go and tried to follow the instructions on page 28 in Watts on Bridgman Vol I, but the result was very poor so I threw it out. Yours looks really good!
I agree that the charcoal pencil is difficult to control. You will be a pro at it soon. Your drawing looks great already.
A beginning...I am new to holding the pencil this way but it's cool. My first circle shocked me as it was good. The pic is a start...I will persevere from here.

Looks amazing and deals with so many forms at once really well!! I’m actually studying abs right now so I’m going to analyze this and learn XD
