LESSON NOTES
Let's render a dynamic torso inspired by Frank Frazetta. I'll show you how to lock down complex shapes and creatively link them together.
COMMENTS
Here is my Jaguar king. Fun exercise! I had different pencils and I liked most the faber castell. When I wanted to add conte on top - it was out of place. The whiteness of the conte was so strong that I had to rub it away. Anyway, was cool!
I tried to concentrate on the ‘design aspect’ and not copy Geoff’s drawing while also attempting to avoid a straight reproduction of Frazetta’s painting. It was very difficult.
This was a very inspiring demo to watch. I was intimidated to even attempt this drawing. But growth comes when you push your boundaries. So here is my attempt. I’ve never did light on dark drawing before. I tried to make it my own rather than attempting to draw from the solution. I did make some modifications based on this demo. I feel like my attempt is messier than others but I learned a lot from the process. I’ll have to do a lot more of these before I am truly comfortable.
I also want to know the best way to take pictures of darker pieces like this. I ended up removing all the color saturation. (I also got some eraser pieces or something stuck on the page.)
Yes assignments can be so intimidating. Good for us to remember that growth comes when you push your boundaries. Thnx. :)
Slowly getting used to black paper and white pencil. I tried to see in the original Frazetta what is drawn in this demo (first image) and draw my own (flawed) impression of what should be white and what not. I hope some of the muscles are recognizable.
