I went with pencil for this assignment.

Not entirely happy with the smoothness of the lines but this is about form communication first and most. Very fun exercise.

My organic chair line assignment, I changed it slightly to the reference.

Here is my assignment. Done with a brush, and once again Whiteout. I did not draw it, I printed as blue-line which I used the computer to erase.

I really like how you indicated the spring and x contour lines on bottom half. The shape of this chair is very obvious with your chosen contour lines.

Here are my organic chair assignments. For simplicity’s sake, I copied and traced the images rather than drawing them freehand. I feel like there is really bad line quality on both of these. My line quality definitely needs improvement. I followed along for the demo image, basically copying the demo. I did see a shadow where the inside of the curve connecting to the leg of the chair, so I put a spring line somewhat representing that shadow, kind of reverse thinking from the highlight idea that was mentioned in the lesson. The second one, I feel like I overworked the contour lines therefore loosing the form of inside of the chair. Both of these drawings are with Pentel Pointliner size 0.8 for the silhouette lines and 0.1 for the contour lines. One thing that I don’t really like about these pens is that they don’t really draw well from the side, so I tend to tighten up a bit from holding the pen more upright, if that makes sense? Both of these are drawn on copy paper.

I think you did a really good job with that curve from the leg to the frame. Looks seamless and reads well. I need to pull up some Joe Kubert inking videos. I swore he just uses white out and says' "don't worry kids! The scanner won't pick it up." Trust me Joe... it does! Granted the scanners of the 80s compared to what we have today may be a bit different.

Here is my attempt. I printed it out and drew over it with dip-pen. Apologies for the smudging. I will try to practice this more to get my drawings more clean in the future.

Good call outlining the entire seat cushion and adding the vertical and horizontal cross contour in it's center. This looks like the safest chair to take seat in! I will mercilessly attempt to rip this off tomorrow.

I've included a picture of the chair Len used as an example plus the one posted in download section. I traced over a faded out copy of the red chair but drew the white one free-hand. On that, I used a darker value on more than the silhouette lines and drew in (probably more than necessary) spring and cross contour lines. Any feedback/suggestions for improvement are welcome.

You do such a good job slinging that pencil. Did a great job of tapering that frame into the leg. Do you sharpen you pencil like a bullet to get that transition from thick to thin? Some folks have the ability to kind of start a stroke broadsided and then lift up to get the taper... I never figured it out XD.

Serously Proko land? You're going to let me be the first one to post here? Poor Len, is going to get a notification, there will be a light in his eyes and a song in his heart. Eager to see the fruits of his labor and the work his students have to post... and the first thing he gets to see is this? I'm all for sharing my misery with others but this is just cruel!
So as before I'm just going to start off with following along with the demo before tackling the actual assignment a bit later. Started out with the ream of paper exercises and just tracing over the image a couple times with a Sharpie and Microns. From there I traced the basic outline with a pencil, inked the silhouette and then finally the contour and highlights.
Strange thing was, I wanted to make long fluid lines during the silhouette but... my hand gets in the way of my vision... so I end up guessing where the line should go. When I decided to make the lines a bit shorter they kind of look janky with me having a hard time starting the line again in a smooth transition. Another problem with the silhouette line is that sometimes I will notice the line is a tad too thin but when I try to thicken it up, it leaves a very undesirable effect. I did end up buying a bunch of Bristol Board to practice with but... I'm a cheapskate and chose the free shipping option, so they probably won't be here till the end of the month.
As always thoughts, concerns, jeers and cheers are all welcomed. I'll keep posting my work in the comments. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for being the first to share @Michael Giff. I think doing a rough lay in with a light pencil was a smart plan. Your final dip pen version looks great and I can clearly see the difference between the silhouette and spring/contour lines. After seeing your comments here and in first assignment about dip pens, I did a little dive to learn more about them. They look fun to use; maybe once I feel more comfortable using ink, I'll give them a try. I found this video where she tells viewers what she wishes she knew when starting to use dip pens, if you're interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZKw9lnSIpg

Decided to mix it up today. Instead of Nicoladies in the morning and Proko in the evening let's flip it! Maybe after a nights sleep from Proko land and hitting the assignment in the morning will yield some better results!! ...eeeh... it was worth a try.
Again started off with warming up and tracing over the image a couple of times. Decided to not be cute and use my pencils. I saw a student in the previous lesson do some really good work with pencils... I could not replicate that success. T_T
So back to the pen and ink!! Really like the Maru nib. No matter what pressure or how much ink I load on it it seems to always to give me the same line... reliability... I appreciate it! Take note, Microns!! My big trouble was just trying to figure out what to do with the white chair. I thought it was hard to sus out the details on the red one but white? It's as blank as my soul, as empty as my drawing abilities....
Looking forward to the critique of lesson one and see if I can't pull something to help me out with this assignment. If time allows I'll try to post another attempt today but most likely will just have to hit this again tomorrow.
Note: The pencils are .03mm and 2 mm.
