ASSIGNMENTS
- Draw a minimum of 30 cylinders freehand.
- Draw 20 cylinders that share the same 1P perspective space.
- Draw 20 cylinders that share the same horizon line in the same 2p perspective space.
Really good excercise! Thought I knew this but blew the 2nd straight away by making ellipses, ignoring the absolut basics of one point perspective. Glad I realized it though and went at it again it with straight on circles for cylinder caps. Then got brain freeze on starting the 3rd and did as suggested, starting with boxes to lock in the cylinders. To sort it out in my head and to get it better, then made a go at it again.
Starting out here and I can see that third part will require that box practice and a redo. But suggestion about all parts are still welcome (although given the course age and lack of responses below, I'm not raising my hopes up)
Seems really good over all :), some ellipses here and there on 1 and 3 seems a bit flattened/pinched. On 3, the two above horizon on the left seems off. The sides are parallell and don't extend to vanishing point on horizon. Same with the one in the middle, the diagonal smaller one.
Took some humility to draw cylinders for an hour but glad I did it. Very good practice and helps a lot with making the perspective intuitive. I feel like I restricted my notional vanishing points to the scope of the page, and I realize now that if I had expanded the horizon line beyond the page I could have created a greater variety of perspectives.
Nice :), but seems you did same mistake as I did in one perspective, making ellipses for the cylinder caps. They are all seen full on and kept as circles in 1-point perspective.
Good so far! A couple of things I can suggest: Try to always make sure the lines converge towards the point that's further away. And the curve will be more pronounced the further away it gets from you. Those should give your cylinders a bit more believability. Good luck!
My first assignment submitted to Proko.com!
The 2-point perspective part was a bit harder than expected! I'm sure I'll get the hang of it intuitively with time.
I know there aren’t many drawings, but I wanted to make sure I was on the right track, especially with the 2 pp.
Hi there! Please let me know if there are anything incorrect with my assignment submission.
Would love to know specifically if cylinders 1, 6, 7, 8, 14 and 18 in assignment 2 are correctly drawn and are still considered a 1-point perspective. Thanks!
The ellipses on 6, 7, and 14 are too pointed on one side but otherwise I believe they would technically be one point the way they are drawn. I believe the taller, upright ones would be better served with a vanishing point going down, making them 2pp.
1, 8, and 18 have ellipses that don't share the same minor axis so one end or another look to be cut off at odd angles.
Personally, I want to be able to draw both, traditionally & digitally. So, my assignment is twice that.
Wow! Good for you to it in both mediums! I don't think I have the focus to double my assignments. 😄
Free hand was fun. 1 and 2 pt was a bit difficult to do in the beginning without a guide. But after practicing a few with a guide I gave it another go without one.
This was a humbling exercise for me. Took way longer to wrap my head around than I expected and I still feel like my 2 point stuff feels a bit tenuous. I tried doing a variety of different points along the same horizon which i am really not used to. I feel kinda unsure on whether or not they look right.
