Hi guys! I am drawings stylised portrait. I am first drawing 2d shape of the head. The problem I face is that I am struggling to draw the head in different angles as I lose its head shape likeness. How do I solve this problem? Thanks!

I can recommend Michael Hampton's course on Head Drawing and Construction for this, it helped me a lot. There are numerous exercises specifically on setting up the head at different tilts and perspectives. https://www.proko.com/course/head-drawing-and-construction Here's one of the exercises I submitted for that course showing some of the approach. Most of the course is dealing with overall head position and rotation exercises, but at the end there are some basic steps to go from there to actual feature lay-in for portraits or characters.

Hi Ami, There are two strategy I use when turning anything in 3d space, but especially a head. The first is to use lines to mark there key landmarks, and make sure in my turned head, those are hitting in the same place. This can be tricky as you need to imagine the volume of the head, and the pointedness of the nose, and the concaveness of the eye sockets. Buying a small skull to sketch from is super useful for this as you can look at that and rotate it and draw it from every angle. The next thing I do, is to make sure I have characteristic features to draw from. In the attached sample drawing, I have a ponytail, a sort of rounded chin, a sharp line for the color bone, and a particular look for the lips. When I rotate them in space, the face is still recognizable because I showed those characteristics in both angles of the head. More generally, one thing I think about is that things on the far side of the head when drawing in 3/4 are literally that: the far eye is 3/4ths as large as the close eye. This is obviously an estimate, and totally depends on how turned the head is. Still, as a general rule, make sure things on the far side of the face are more narrow than things on the closer side of the face. This will help sort things out and also give you a sense of perspective without getting too bogged down in the details. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Here’s how I might tackle this face from multiple views. Use the shape of the skull to inform the front and side views. The 3/4 view can be measured from those two. Animation can also help to visualize this. Hope this helps!
