Asked for help
Oh man… This one was rough for me, it was really easy to do the snail but the shoes were difficult. I blame myself mostly for not leaving enough room to make the correct proportions. It got to the point I almost gave up and redid the whole process, but I decided to follow through because I want to see my flaws. And this one helped me understand not to be stingy with my sketch book. Any critiques would be more than welcomed on this one…

Not so much of a critique, but hopefully a helpful suggestion: before you start going into detail, try to lay in an overall shape, like an "envelope" to quickly eyeball the overall proportions. This doesn't have to be perfect and you can go in or out of the envelope at your discretion, but it will help you place your drawing exactly where you want it on the page. Just make sure your marks are very light so they fade behind the final drawing!

Your laces look really clean!

These are my before and after the demo video. I feel that my shading could definitely use improvement. Outside of that I am unsure/unaware of my flaws. I would love any feedback to help me see the bigger picture.

Your shading is a lot tighter in the second iteration -- nicely done! It's looking great. To take it to the next level, you could work more on your lighter value range: having that large of a value shape on a form that is almost round flattens it and detracts from the illusion of depth. You got a bit too simple here. Try adding some more 3rd darkest value shapes to define the form. Think about how to support the contour of the pear with those shapes.
