More fun than expected! Relly enjoyed going back and forth, erasing and changing lines slightly to get a feeling of dynamism and flow. Attempted lvl 2 as well.

These are so good, feels dynamic to me! I really like your version of number 5, the dropped right shoulder gives it more of a lumbering along look as opposed to more rigid.

It's really nice to see the lessons coming together, like being able to apply various line weights to emphasize different things, or at least trying too! I feel like I started with dynamic shapes and then slipped into accurate and trying to be interesting by adding extra detail to one side of the seals lying down. Also wish I hadn't erased so many of the initial lines I put down, just got to do more...

That was hard, I feel like my biggest error was tilting the head down to the left, I think that was because of the pose leading me that way and so everything is then off and rotated out of place, doing the overlay afterwards helped with feedback. Also making human faces look realistically proportioned seems a lot harder than animals. I also think I over thought the drawing, trying to measure it all out and not look for the flow lines in the piece to check how things lined up with each other, if anyone has some thoughts I'd be keen to hear!

Third attempt after the critique, and feeling more confident with this method. This time I didn't tilt the head enough, lots to improve but making progress and I think the drawing is a closer representation of the person than my previous attempts.

Tried another face after the demo, feel like I improved, but this is hard. I think the proportions of each individual feature are better, but then the relationship between features is wrong. And I rushed the shoulders when I should have measured. And thanks to Brooke for this photo on Unsplash: https://unsplash.com/photos/woman-sitting-on-wooden-stair-smiling-nNj_e121IbI

This was fun, I really like the hippo and rooster I ended up with, found the buffalo a bit harder to get that droopy look about it. Thanks!

I did a study of Sorie Kim, the red is what I drew and black is the originals, each animal took me a while to draw but I felt like I gained a lot of insight into varying lines, using smooth to rough lines as well as where I like to put importance. Also took that tip a few lessons back about using a red pencil, I don't get distracted by detail too early in a sketch (as much)!

I tried to imitate Sorie Kim's art style with a new drawing but just got lost in where to place what lines, so decided as per the advice in the demo and critique to just do more studies! After seeing Rob De La Torre's Conan I had to give one a go, as well as a Glen Keane of Tarzon, these were a lot of fun, I think I need to try other tools as Conan was really hard to fill in, and I'd like to try something with a greater range in value. The previous lessons and demos have been so helpful to make me think through the silhouette of the piece and the lines of interest, it is hard to see in the pictures but I have been using them a ton!

I had a lot of fun with this one! I made the original image a bit lighter so I could see where I traced better. For the importance, I tried to put heavier weight on the contour and the head, eye, and horn. Thanks!

They both look great, it was a fun project hey! They both show off the different methods well, if there is anything I would adjust in the importance one its making the front leg a bit bolder all the way up to where it meets the body and then a bolder belly too so you can see more of the overall shape rather than just the silhouette (but that is also personal choice), keep it up!

I really struggled with hierarchy because I couldn’t figure out what or how much to emphasize in the image. I remember thinking that I was learning a lot more about how that pencil behaved as I went through the exercise than any insight about organization of weights and their relation to form. I went back and tried to tinker with it a few times but eventually made myself stop because I got to a point where I felt like I wasn’t actually making anything any better. Looking at the shadow one in hindsight and with fresh eyes, I might have overdone it a bit? At least I had a better idea of where to put the heavier lines based on the photo.

Nice work, I think you applied the theories well, especially side by side you can see the different methods used. Getting to know your pencil is great, as it'll eventually become an extension of yourself, I've been having trouble connecting with my pencils both real and digital, trying different pencils till I landed on one that felt good for me (a cheap colour pencil, must be my cheap personality!)

I really enjoyed the Hierarchy of Importance, I felt more drawn towards this style, whereas I was less sure with the Light and Shadow method. Was great to learn about how to apply line weights, connecting the feet to the ground was something I had never tried before and keen to try more of, thank you!

I seem to enjoy trying the first image before the demo then more attempts during and after the demo and critique so I can attempt the feedback. Drawings were then the snail before, the boots after the snail demo and the camel after the boots demo, I'll save the skull for a second pass through. I made the mistake of attempting to add value and the cross-contours to the snail, and those laces on the boots were hard! felt I struggled with the big knot of laces in the top left. I tried hard with the camel to be confident with my lines, it will take some getting used too.

Hi! Here is my drawing of level-1-pear-2 before watching the demo, I am doing this on a tablet so it was interesting trying to shade with the pressure on the tablet, also tried not using the undo instead sticking to a 50% opacity eraser

I drew pear 3 after the demo (top right) and again after the critique (bottom right). With the top right I tried different opacities of the same brush and found it hard to get the darker half tone, so after the critique I feel I leant into the digital more and used 100% opacity with the same brush using a different colour for each of the 5 levels, applying what Stan said in the demo and critique to get something I liked, always happy for more feedback though!
