added comment inDemo - Measure Proportions
Second portrait observation ! Even tho there are still mistakes, your tips on how to correct yourself without a teacher are really useful ! Made a lot of progress on my second one, which I did NOT see coming.
Honestly can't believe I made these easy mistakes now that I checked on procreate :')
I was like "ITS SUPPOSED TO BE ALIGNED, WHY DID I DO THAT???"
Thank you for that demo, i'll keep practicing !

Tried with another one, And again.. messed up the eyes. Also I am facing difficulties finding and matching relevant landmarks. It's taking too much time for me to find these measurements/ landmarks. Mainly struggling with the facial features.
Try looking for natural landmarks that tend to align if it was someone looking directly at you for example !
I think the moment you start seeing an eye and not a shape, is when you need to take a step back (also quite literally, you'll simplify shapes more easily). Since we see people everyday, we interpret it as something we know, but you need to really switch your mind into "simple shapes" mode !
For example, if you squint your eyes, you'll see that the hairline above the forehead is one horizontal line.
Don't mind how much time it takes, this is usually how you'll end up rushing and getting into easy mistakes :)
Really start from big form into smaller ones, try finding every big one you can before getting into details !
Good job anyway, keep it up :D

I got sideways when doing the details xD
I'll try doing others after watching the demo, so I can see what mistakes I probably made.
One I know for sure was not using real straight lines, but slightly C curved lines.
Really hate the eyes, but definitly can see how I could improve it, when simplifying the reference.
One step at a time !

I didn't know that I used a plum line when studying proportions. Thank you proko. Btw, did anyone figure out how to do those photoshop steps on clipstudio paint? I get stuck at the "alt click the mask". It doesn't select it
Not sure if it'll help, but alt clicking is the shortcut on photoshop, so it might be a different shortcut to select a mask on Clipstudio Paint.
Otherwise, you can probably just group the fill and the drawing together, and change the fusion mode of the fill inside the group. It might give a similar result.
And then lower the opacity of the group so you can see beneath it.
That ending really got me giggling at night xD

Picked a few more, I feel like I didn't help myself with the difficulty, but maybe that's because I'm comparing it to the monkey and Stan drawing it.
Maybe I didn't simplify enough on some of them, I think I'm happy with how simple the deer is, might have been the quickest one too, didn't overthink it.
I spent too much time on the gekko one, really tried to think about the behind the shape thing...
Really need to practice more on it !

KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!
Its not that easy to keep it simple honestly. Especially with drawings, when you're face to face with a blank sheet and sometimes think it misses this, and that, and maybe this. Good training to restrain yourself with the least amount of details. I always found it amazing when people could make you guess something with a few pencil strokes.
But yeah, keep it simple stupid tho :')
Wanted to play with shapes a little before starting the official assignments. But simple does not fit into my vocabulary so I went and finished my design :3

I felt way too scared at the beginning, that I kept delaying when I should draw the skull xD
Finally drew it, and understood what Stan meant by "my proportions are off because i'm focusing on the line quality". But WAYYYYY more :') Noticed it when I stepped back to take the picture, that my skull look like he went to the dentist (swollen jaw) Anyway, it did take me an hour (and a half maybe), I'm reaaaaaally slow when I draw, but I'm glad I did it (and covered the whole page :') Maybe should have done it smaller ?)
Also tried to replicate the edge Jeff Watts do, while not having the same tools, hope you can notice it at least a bit.
Thanks for the potential feedbacks :p
(Mine's the left one, of course.. xD)

Couldn't find a lot I liked of people just "sketching", and couldn't get myself to draw the entirety of their work, but I found a lot of artists I enjoy the work of, and tried to replicate some of their drawings. I shaded a bit on the box because I was a big fan of the straight lines used on the surface's edges.
The pictures should show Inucoco's, Nesskain & Matt Smith's work, which felt the most accessible to me, but here are some artists I wanted to try out but didn't (probably by fear xD) :
- Beksinsky (Love his work)
- Kota Koriki (Discovered recently, but I felt that without colors it wouldn't be the same)
- Robbie Trevino (I'll put a picture of what I wanted to try as the last picture)
