Ironically, it was the shoes that I was slower than a snail for! This one was tough, but it was a good challenge trying to keep myself from using a bunch of short hairy lines! The folds in the laces were especially tough for me. I wasn’t quite sure how much detail we needed for line work, so I tried adding a few contours here and there to both serve as reference points and give a little depth (especially to the snail shell)!

Obviously you paid a lot of attention to the laces, and it paid back!

Hey everyone! Here’s another crack at the level 1 assignment after a yearlong hiatus. This time, I used physical media (2H, HB, 2B 2mm mechanical pencils) rather than my iPad and Procreate like I did last time. It’s been fun getting back into things!

Hi all! I just signed up for this course. Here’s my first crack at the first assignment, done digitally using Procreate with an Apple Pencil. Simplifying the shapes and values was a unique challenge—I really had to resist the urge to smooth out my shadows. :D

Very good work separating all the values! It's clean and easy to see all 5 of them, only thing I'd suggest is that when you fill the value try doing it with closer and slower strokes to fill a bit of the empty lighter spots within the values themselves, besides that you're doing good!

Looks great! The value shapes are clean and designed well. I think the midtones could be a touch darker to separate it from the background more, but that is all. Good stuff. Keep it up for the rest of the course 👍
