This is my attempt at hierarchy of lines and shadows. I wasn’t sure how to go about shadows. I originally had dark lines and very dark lines and areas. It didn’t seem right so I kept revising until this. Would appreciate feedback on how this could’ve been better.

I like these exercises— I think I could definitely work on my straights and line weight. I couldn’t find my ruler today, so I might need to replace that.

this was a fun assignment, though I struggled a good bit with it. I opted to leave out some smaller details with the hope of getting the bigger picture and strokes more or less right.

attempt at the snail . I think I spent too much time when I did the boot, so I tried to stick with simplifying the snail without worrying if it’s perfect. Hopefully it wasn’t an over correction

heres my attempt at the boots. I was okay until the laces, which felt overwhelming . I found it helped me to block the laces with straights then lay the curves on top. Going to tackle the snail now!
That’s not a bad approach. I found the detail around the laces to be overwhelming. My eye kept getting lost when trying to position them. Blocking them in first would have helped.

definitely was harder than i thought, especially controlling the pressure throughout.

My attempt before and after the demo. Think the tone separation is better, but not totally happy with the tone shapes
After watching the critique, I tried one final attempt. I’m struggling to get the values I want.

First attempt(s). Retried it after my first attempt because I felt my shading was unclear/missing a tone.
I think you need to darken the darkest values in the first picture. but your simplification of the overall shape is something i think you did well.
taking a step back from the drawing helps me focus on the overall form. try that. its so easy for us to get tunnel visioned on details. great job overall :)
