Pros and Cons of Studying Multiple Disciplines - Draftsmen S1E07
comments 7 submissions
I don’t go to art class, nor partake in art competitions(but maybe this year I will) but I draw on a daily basis, whether I’m grounded, supposed to be sleeping/working/eating/practicingrjfhfhejf YOU GET THE GIST.
earlier today in class, I decided to draw Mystic Flour Cookie. It didn’t take long to make, so tomorrow I’m gonna show it to my teacher and see what she thinks.
I drew this entirely out of reference, with only a pencil and a blender. Do you guys have any criticism? FYI, this is NOT my art style, I am referencing from the Cookie Run: Kingdom art style.

Marshall and Stan discuss the pros and cons of studying multiple disciplines and their effect on learning art. A caller wants to know if the overhand grip can be applied to drawing with a digital stylus. Both Draftsmen have “thangs” that help them stay physically fit and active.
“Draftsmen” is available in audio. Subscribe on these platforms to keep up to date:

I am all up for natural way of drawing, my professor gave me the book last year and I still have not returned it, because it requires atmost commitment and I haven't completed it yet, let alone be completed I am on first exercise still.
I'm also wanting to do comics and graphic novels and I really recommend a writing course (especially screen writing) for people doing it. I hate to say it but I see, especially with web toons, a lot of great art being wasted with mediocre and derivative stories.
So I ordered The Natural Way to Draw. Marshall gives a good sales pitch, and it actually sounds like the kind of exercises that I'm looking for. Let's see if I can make it through the 750 (375) hours of practice...
As someone who always struggles to self direct my practice it sounds interesting to me. Something to go back to when I have an hour to study but don't know what to do in it.
Have you started it? Do you think you are getting much out of it?
The first part of this episode gave me such a sense of relief, because I had the exact same question that I was actually gaining courage to ask on instagram, but decided to rewatch the entire podcast first just in case they had something here about it.
Thank you so much for who asked that question and to the team for answering.
My first episode of Draftsmen and it's fantastic! Never been into such things but this podcast got me! I laughed a lot and now it's time to think carefully about the main question...it's hard because really was painful to me at some point and I was doubting if it's normal to do so many things. At a time. And still trying to be good at them. Now got used to it and have known myself better and realized it's just me and I can't focus on one thing because have this urge to change work continuously. Must say that these are different kinds of art though.
Thank you!
