The struggle is real. Anyone else?

Quick question. I'm planning on mostly working with pencils, one large sketchbook for home and one smaller one for work/other places. However, I would also like to try using inking mediums as I have some microbon pens laying around my room. Should I get another book specifically for inking or is it okay to alternate mediums in one sketchbook?

He didn't have to come at me like that. Trying a not so Smeagol approach is proving somewhat helpful even if it goes against all that I am. 🤣

What are some GOOD charcoal brands? I used to love charcoal in high school and would like to try some.

I've been hoarding art supplies for years! Little did I know that I was preparing for this course 🤣 I feel that if you have the stuffs it should be used. I want to pass on my attempts at putting joy on paper rather than a bunch of unused supplies.

Some tool scribbles and swatches. If there's one thing I wish I had known when I first picked up some pencils, it would be to swatch out your materials in the most efficient yet fun way possible. These references are invaluable to me. It's virtually impossible to get the outside color to directly match the medium's output.

I'm so stoked for the video to drop am mid try on the intermediate project. 🤣 Why does he have to look like a Disney character‽ Everything I draw comes out cartoon. Granted - I have yet to really get the shading in but 🤦‍♀️

Seeing how good everyone beginner here is makes me want to rage quit my life. I am literally the worst hand eye coordination in this course. I literally cannot draw a line and circle or anything. I hope I can muster a pear that doesn't give you all eye cancer. Fingers crossed.

It was stressed to have fun where we can. So, this guy came out of my charcoal pencils this morning. It’s a new medium for me. This pear has just been caught stuffing his face directly from the refrigerator.

Here’s my pear. Please forgive the scratches in the paper. There is a whole group of pencils that are about to get banished from my collection 🙈 I know it’s early but am glad to get started regardless. Any feedback cherished.

I decided to settle in with some gesture practice. I added to some more than others but hoped to capture the gesture properly. These are multi-attempt projects. So, I did each one like the exercises suggest and have touched them and tweaked them daily to see if I can capture their core.

Here are some very rough figure drawings 😕 they each took me an embarrassing 2 minutes to do. I'm in a huge taste gap at the moment. Existential crisis over. Time to put in the actual work. I've been drawing more complicated subjects and the like 🤷‍♀️ What do I expect 🤦‍♀️ It's gonna look wonky at first. Open to some tips even though there’s not much to work with yet.
