Stan's Kristian drawing reminds me of Egon Schiele's art because of how skinny he made him..!

Seriously great!!! I love how structural your approach is!

Found this really difficult but also really helpful because of the resolution; it shows me how much I need to learn anatomy because I don't know what the forms are if I can't see them. Did this in ink with gesture guidelines I erased after. Apologies for absolutely Wrecking the hands... I see so much wrong with this but any critiques are extremely welcome!

What does it feel like for a professional like you to get back into drawing after a long time? Is it like riding a bike, you let muscle memory take over or do you feel "rusty" with observation and markmaking?

Do you hope that the version of the site called "Proko 2.0" just becomes known as "Proko" again after an adjustment time or would you like it to be known indefinitely as "Proko 2.0?"

@Dante Navarro , really great scene! I love the storytelling! One thing I notice immediately is with the first image. As a general rule, you want your images to be clear even in the small thumbnail form; but because the groin area of the desaturated red figure's clothes is overlapping where the saturated red's groin area would be, it leads to a very confusing read. It acts as a tangent that makes the action more confusing until you look at it closely, which is always something we want to avoid. I think a fix for this would be to change the position of the desaturated red figure and move him so the more saturated red figure's groin/shorts are visible as well. Possibly even change the colors to be more different than each other as well. I hope this helps. I see some strong stuff here, keep it up!

Stan the Man, Art question here! Is direct drawing important or necessary for beginners over drawing with general proportion guidelines? Sometimes I find that my direct drawings without guidelines look better and have better proportions than my ones with loose guidelines, but it's never a consistent thing. I want to do the best thing to improve in the time that I have, so is direct drawing a waste of time before I fully know anatomy / perspective / etc? Should I instead spend more time on making better guidelines?

Hey Stan! Seriously love what you've done with Proko 2.0. Just an art question: Did the way you observe things change as you transitioned from a beginner to a professional? I feel like I observe contour more than seeing form as an artist with less experience and I'd like to know if I should start observing differently.

Hey Proko Team! I think a great feature would be to add the ability to "pin" posts to your profile. For me, I know I would want critiquers, if they choose to check out my profile to see my bio, to know my art parents and other inspirations/aspirations without having to mention it in every post I ask for critique in. Just a thought!
Aiden Graham Cole
Hey @vishal singh ! Your rendering is pretty great! I don't know what your reference looks like, but from what I can see, the features look a little bit squished together. When thinking of a face, we should always imagine the skull underneath so we place our features accurately on the head. I would do some skull studies, but once you get the placement and proportion down, I can tell that your portraits are going to be awesome! Keep it up!

I'm pretty much listening to music constantly. The only time I find it particularly difficult to focus with music is when I'm writing, but most other times if I need to concentrate on drawing, my brain just tunes out the noise, which is a little ironic. I LOVE the Undertale soundtrack, and I'm also really fond of the stuff Hans Zimmer does, especially his Spider Man soundtrack work. For people who are more drawn to relaxing music to get into the creating zone, I've got links to playlists I've made to maximize focus! One for general relaxation akin to being in the womb: https://vocal.media/beat/life-from-inside-the-womb And one of songs from languages other than English for when you really need to focus, but are too distracted by lyrics: https://vocal.media/beat/songs-in-other-languages-that-melt-me-to-my-seat

Hey, @Thomas Tarkotta , really great , especially without reference! If you're still taking critique, I would say that pure white is a color that's generally advised against in your painting other than for pure highlights. For white eyelashes, you'll often see an off-white or yellow color, but because it is surrounded by colors of darker value, still appears white. I would also darken the color of the white hood to a more off-white, because when you brighten it up to the closest to a pure white as possible, it throws the image off balance and competes with the focal point to the detriment of the image. I think the purple hood went great with the image, but I would definitely study folds and the way things drape on spheres (which the head acts as, essentially). Keep up the great work!

Hey @Jessica Harrison , these are seriously awesome! Love your rendering and your forms are great. I'm not the greatest at anatomy and I haven't seen your reference so take this with a grain of salt, but it seems that what might seem strange is the connection of the hand/wrist to the rest of the forearm...? They seem just the slightest bit thick to me, but that's coming from someone who isn't terribly familiar with the muscles underneath, so take this as a cold read from a layman!

Let's see what the community wants. We were planning on keeping this category clean with only official challenges, but if there is enough interest in allowing user created challenges, I'm ok with it. I can just pin the official ones to the top. Let's VOTE.. Reply to this comment with your thought!

I think it's a great idea! That way we will have more opportunities to stretch our artistic muscles and engage with each other! Prokochallenges have nudged me into directions I wouldn't have gone otherwise, always for a great benefit, and I expect user challenges would do the same!

That was so much fun haha. Even though I didn't manage to follow along during the livestream. Drawing the reference with Stephen's voice in the background and soaking up his wisdom was quite relaxing and very zen. Looking at what I have now, it seems like I messed up the placement of the lips and angle of the nose...among many other things, oops!

Hey there Kevin! I think a major thing that would instantly make this more proportionally accurate and a more accurate likeness would be to bring down the nose. A general note for faces is the bottom of the nose is usually halfway between the nose and chin; your bottom of the nose is closer to the eyes than the middle. I also think that darkening your values would really anchor this piece. Really great work and keep it up!

1 hour of 2 minute poses! (References from line-of-action.com) I really liked the first two to four but then I started getting mentally caught up and couldn't find my flow again until around #14. I think I started worrying about whether I was practicing correctly and then was stuck overthinking for a while. (Hopefully farther into the course this won't be so much a concern.) How do y'all stay in your flow and/or shake off a bad pose? Am I focusing too much on contour perhaps? Any other critique/advice is welcome as well, for reference I have skimmed through the figure and anatomy courses in previous years and am just starting to work through them seriously (thanks proko 2.0 for the motivation!).

Seriously awesome gestures! You have great dynamic lines and really incredible motion! My only critique would be that #4 is a bit unclear in the pose. Maybe it's just a particularly difficult jumbled pose, but I as a viewer can't figure out where the limbs are and what's going on. Welcome to the community and I'm really looking forward to seeing more from you! I love your artistic energy!

Hey everyone! I am James, and I have done some form of art all my life. I have worked with graphite, charcoal, colored pencil, pastel, oil, acrylic, digital,... My recent focus has been on digital paintings of portraits and figures. Attached are some of my digital works done in Photoshop. I also have a PhD in engineering biomechanics, so I have a strong background in anatomy and human movement. I try to use that in my art.

I am Jeremiah Pratt, and I am attending Shepherd university. I love concept and fine art, and am hoping this site and community will motivate me to work more and expand my mediums. I would love to see the community do their part to grow this website and inspire eachother to draw. I was thinking I would host a design your own animal challenge, perhaps involving a term generator.

Hey, @haimmiah , welcome to the community! I love these, especially the 6th image! I could definitely see that being a character design in an animated film. A design-your-own-animal challenge would be really cool! This site would certainly be the place to do it with all the dedicated artists here!
