Here are my submissions! I painted these from reference photos I took on a trip to beautiful British Columbia this past autumn. The landscape there is so different to what I'm used to, so I wanted to capture the mountains, forests, and dazzling sunsets. These are painted in gouache on watercolour board, using 6 colours plus white (lemon yellow, yellow ochre, cadmium red, permanent rose, phthalo blue, ultramarine blue). I made a bunch of other ones but decided on these for my final 5. Great challenge! Love to see everyone's work.

Phew! I NEVER do landscapes, so this was a welcome trip outside my comfort zone! Had so much fun painting these, it's a brilliant exercise for using colour and shapes, will definitely do it again. Please tell me what you think! Painted digitally using Photoshop.

Hello everyone :) I loved this challenge! While I had never really done any landscape studies, I desperately wanted to start and practice painting backgrounds, so this was the perfect opportunity. Below you can see my little paintings. They were done in Procreate and the scenes depicted are all in the village I grew up in. I'm still at my parents' for Christmas break, so for some of my paintings I stood outside in the cold and drew while my fingers were slowly freezing off - but I think it was worth it! :D

Hi :) my name is Hanna, I‘m 21 years old and currently studying to become an art teacher in Germany. I‘m planning on continuing doing fine arts to maybe build a career and would love to do some illustration work in the future. At the moment I‘m trying to get away from only drawing singular characters without backgrounds 😅 let’s see how that goes. Take care and thanks for your time :)

This is my entry for the challenge, created with pen and ink on paper. Meridionali Dryadalis A small carnivorous species of pixie native to the rain-forests of South America. They are extremely territorial, each individual requires an area of at least four square miles, males and females meet only once a year in order to mate. Meridionali Dryadalis are very clever, numerous sightings of individuals wearing a rudimentary amour constructed from the hide of their prey, were reported. Some scientists even believe Meridionali Dryadalis to be capable of constructing sophisticated weaponry, such as rapier-like weapons from the beaks of small birds. PS: this is my first Proko challenge, thanks I had lots of fun with it.

Hi, here's my entry for the September challenge. This is my first time entering a Proko challenge, and I really enjoyed drawing this:) 'The creature is sometimes referred to as "The coral beast", as it has been spotted only twice at night in or near coral reefs. Scientists still do not know what the creature is, although after observing a short video and photos taken during the encounters, they believe that this creature may be loosely related to the modern seahorse, as it shares characteristics such as the elongated body, horse-shaped head, and the wavelike movement of the dorsal fin, an important part of seahorse locomotion. Other observations include bioluminescent markings, which are thought to camouflage the creature as glowing coral, so that when coral eating fish or crustaceans approach, the creature can easily catch them without expending too much energy. The bioluminescent "whiskers" are also thought to help draw prey in, similar to how an anglerfish catches food. Perhaps they also help the animal navigate through its crowded environment. More observations are necessary. '

Hello there! I'm Cody. Long time watcher, first-time challenge entry. I make my own webcomics, but lately, I've wanted to get better at my character design and illustration skills, this seemed like fun! My basic idea was just grasshopper fantasy swordsman. I wanted to get a basic idea down from all of the bits and bobs I wanted to take from the reference images. So, I went on ahead and made a photo bash version for the character himself. I went in with basically my only for sure being using the grasshopper's wing as a shoulder cloak, pairing that with one of the cool dueling swords, and some other cool stuff I saw in the background of the sword hilts image (Mainly the shirt). After that, I just started sketching using some other bits to quickly reference a fantasyesque background for the character, and I was basically done. Wanted to keep it a sketch, so I tried not going too overboard on any finishes or cleanup. Happy with how it turned out! Kinda wanna write something with this little dude, he was fun as heck to draw.

Hi. This is my first attempt at a challeng here at Proko. This is called, “by Poseidon’s beard!” And our little Lima guardian of land and affiliated with the sea also takes to the air to patrol the skies. He’s sketched with some pencil, paint and pastel brushes in Procreate and is designed using the various references we were given. Bird, bug, Lima, armour, sculpture, palm leaves and jelly fish for Poseidon’s beard. (On the breastplate). Heavily influenced by Jason and the Argonauts. I’m having a good time. Hope you are too.

Hello. I've just found about this website, and I'm really excited about joining the community! This it the first challenge I'm participating in, hopefully I'll be able to do more it the future. This really seems like fun. I've managed to come up with too characters/creatures of sorts? It's an, uhh... Roman cyborg and a colibry fairy. I've included the references I used on the canvas.
