I think we also need advice on relative measuring against our reference. The other student works posted here for feedback would benefit from knowing how to use a plumb-line for example, it would speed up their learning very quickly.
Finally locked in and focus on the fundamental shapes of the face instead going to fast to the shading or even coloring. It looked perfect before I started adding the face details, but by the end it looks too different than the model's face, although I think it still looks believably human.
I think I lost patience when placing the eye socket and brow, since I don't know the exact location of the brow in comparison to the circle's horizontal center line. Perhaps next time I will start the details from the outline of the nose before continuing to the eye socket or lips, since it is at the center of the face, and placing it with the correct proportions will be easier and help the placement of the rest of the facial details.
More inputs will be appreciated!
Portraits done in Willow Charcoal with some Compressed Charcoal for darker blacks. It doesn't feel like the first attempt looks like the features are wrapped around the head. They look flat to me. How do i correct this? The second attempt looks better but still not quite right. I am looking for feedback.

Some recent sketchbook portraits from online reference, done after completing the course.
Here are some portraits I drew before taking this class, I can’t wait to see what I am able to do after learning the loomis method and breaking down each facial feature and how to draw it correctly. I didn’t ever really do well in college because I couldn’t find classes tailored to exactly what I wanted to learn and thank god for technology and people like Mr. Proko for creating platforms to teach lessons on exactly what I’m interested in.
I began my drawing journey early to mid July 2025. The “portrait” on the left is from early August before taking Proko’s Drawing Basics course and this course. The portrait on the right is from September 27, 2025. So this is just roughly 3 months of progress. Still have much to learn, but these courses are fantastic.
Looking for feedback. I think I've made improvements over the last week or so. I've enjoyed practicing.
Looks nice but imo the left eye looks bigger and the eyelashes look chunky but thats prob just how the female model does her lashes
How to draw oval with respect to head angle.Although I have drawn few of them but not able to draw for every angle of head
I'm very excited to start progressing through this course! I've always loved portraits and am looking forward to picking up methods to help me master portrait drawing.
I've heard that it might be a good idea to try and sketch statue faces because they have well defined features and proportions, so I think I will try and implement that into my studies as I progress through the course.
Check out Bargue plates - i found them free on line. There are many statues there to practice drawing. I love the one you posted.
