This course is an introduction to figure construction. I go through the basics of drawing lines, building basic shapes, and using those tools to create complex anatomical forms.

Hello Mr. Hampton, I'm loving all the courses. You've been my favorite anatomy artist and instructor for close to a decade. Any chance, you add more anatomy courses like getting into the torso, leg, and arms and designing the individual muscles, followed by shading (Light/Shadow) the body and head? Sort of like your brainstorm course. I don't have much time so I can't take a course like that, since I have do self pace due to work. Thank you so much! You are legendary!
Michael Hampton
Hey Michael! Thanks so much. That's very kind of you. The most recent thing filmed with Proko is a course on drapery. That should come out sometime this year! Nothing yet on anatomy or shading, I'll definitely keep it in mind though. Again, thanks so much for the note.

Hey Michael, does this course have a "syllabus", ie "Week one is videos XYZ and assignments 123, Week two is..." or is it just "Go through the course as you have time and understanding of the materials"?
Michael Hampton
Hi. The course is laid out in linear progression beginning with an abstract understanding of form and perspective and building into an organic figure construction. Unfortunately, there is not a formal syllabus. However, I hope everything is organized in a way that you wouldn't need it. Hope this helps!

Would doing your gesture course followed by this course be a good learning order?
Michael Hampton
I do! And then Head Construction would be after that.

is there a difference between this course and your book/youtube?
Michael Hampton
There's a lot of overlap for sure.

What's the difference between this course and Stan's Figure Drawing Fundamentals?
Michael Hampton
Not too sure. This course sticks to understanding perspective construction of the figure. I imagine Stans course is a little more comprehensive. I'd check out the lesson breakdowns in each.

Advice on the sequence of learning between gesture, anatomy and construction. Does this course help with anatomy? Or would that be a prerequisite. Thank you.
Michael Hampton
This course would cover the skeleton and construction. So, the step prior to anatomy

How frequent are feedbacks usually given?
Michael Hampton
All of the recorded feedback for this class has already been filmed and put up.

I've been working through this course for several weeks now and have been practicing the lesson material each day, and I feel I'm really making progress with my figure drawing. If anyone is on the fence about taking this course, just do it. Introduction to figure construction was a game changer for me. I'm not even through the whole course yet and already I can see how my technique and thought process has changed. I'm really happy with how my figure drawings are starting to look and its given me confidence in knowing that I can progress with my sketching abilities if I put in the time. When I do finally finish this course, I'll just work through it several more times to be honest. Thank you so much Michael Hampton!
Michael Hampton
Awesome! So happy to hear this. Looking good, Nate! Keep it up.

This course's awesome. Best use of $125 in my life. Before I've bought this course my figures were all stiff because I used to make everything out of boxes. Your gesture lessons are very, very helpful and have helped me made my figures more expressive. Your explanations are clear and very easy to understand. Even something that seems to be not important like types of lines (I literally have never heard anyone discussed about this) is a game-changer for me. Your lessons on form intersections are also really helpful. I've heard the advice about simplifying things into simple shapes many, many times but nobody actually explains how you should do it. You put a lot of care into minimal things like this and have made this course to be very special. Thank you.

Hello Michael. Your anatomy book is one of my most valuable and cherished resources! This course covers figure construction, do you ever plan on releasing an anatomy course that goes into more depth? Thank you kindly in advance :)
Michael Hampton
Thank you so much :) To tell you the truth, I'm not sure. No immediate plans.

Only 33% through this course and look at that! I think that perspective and scale is still my biggest weakness, but I suspect that just needs a little bit of time to work intuitively and fast.
Michael Hampton
Excellent!

Is this course similar to the book that you already have out or is it different?

Is this really Beginner friendly, am considering getting this course? Thanks

So out of curiosity do we have to turn these in? If so is that here?
Michael Hampton
The course is self directed so the assignments are optional and up to you. However, if you do upload anything I'm happy to write some feedback.

Mr Hampton, during your lectures, when you say to make the "pelvis and the ribcage kiss" in order to prevent spacing them too far apart (a common newbie mistake), you mean to do that during the landmark stage right? During your perspective/box construction stage, I notice you place them apart again in their anatomically correct positions,so I wanted to give myself a more clear mental instruction from your suggestion
Michael Hampton
I actually mean to do it during the shapes/tilts stage. When you add the landmarks and convert the shapes to boxes it actually kinda spaces them for you. I did a critique video very recently that might be useful. If I remember correctly, I might show or describe your question. Anyways, here it is, hope it helps. https://youtu.be/I0ZFeibuL58

I just finished proportions. And I think the best thing about these lectures  is the reminder to take it slow, focus on patience and control, especially through the foundational exercises. And the concept of not drawing a "thing" but drawing a drawing kind of blew may mind. Although it did make sense in the things I struggled to draw.  I’ve been drawing for awhile now and the urge to fast forward through the courses is strong but the slow methodical, and logical (not boring) pace of the lectures fill in holes I didn’t even know existed in my figure design. Not to mention, it made some
Michael Hampton
Hey, thanks so much for that feedback. I'm so happy to hear that you're finding them useful so far.
Michael Pham
Just bought the course. Amazing content and knowledge. Will you be doing one for Anatomy muscles on top of these structures? As well as Clothing? I think you're the best there is at teaching these 3 subjects. Thank you!
Michael Hampton
Thanks so much! Happy to hear you're finding it useful. I absolutely would make sure my drawing would be to this stage prior to adding anatomy and drapery. And yes, I'm hoping to add more content.
