Digital Painting Fundamentals
Stop Fighting Your Software. Start Painting Your Masterpiece.
Every digital artist knows the feeling of staring at a blank canvas on a screen. It looks full of potential, but it can also feel overwhelming. There are endless custom brushes, layer masks, blending modes... It’s like sitting in an airplane cockpit without a manual. Beginners struggle, and even experienced traditional artists can freeze up. The work ends up muddy, overworked, or plastic-looking. It loses the life and energy you had in mind. The software starts to feel like an obstacle instead of a tool.
This course is built to remove that barrier.
Turn Your Creative Concepts into Professional-Level Paintings
We’re not going to memorize menus or rely on random tricks. Instead, you’ll move through a clear, structured path into digital painting. In the first part of the course, you’ll focus on real fundamentals. You’ll learn brushwork, edge control, value structure, and color theory in a digital space. The goal is simple. Make the stylus and tablet feel as natural as a pencil or a well-worn brush.
Once that foundation is solid, we build on it. The course shifts from learning the software to using it for digital illustration and advanced techniques. You’ll bridge the gap between a rough sketch and a professional-level painting. This is where things get serious. You’ll work through complex lighting scenarios, material rendering, and visual storytelling. You’ll learn how to take flat concepts and turn them into atmospheric, cinematic illustrations that hold attention.
Experience That Will Transform Your Work
What makes this course different is the instructors. We brought in working professionals with real industry experience. You’re not locked into one rigid method. Instead, you’ll see different workflows, techniques, and approaches from Jon Neimeister, Marco Bucci, Jeremy Vickery, Bryce Kho, Ben Eblen, Tiffanie Mang, and Dave Greco. Each one teaches from their own perspective. That gives you a broader education and helps you develop a process that fits your goals and style.
In the end, this course is about removing intimidation and replacing it with control. You’ll follow a structured two-part path, guided by experienced artists, so you can stop fighting the software and start using it with confidence. It’s a strong foundation for beginners and intermediate artists who want clarity, direction, and the skills to create professional digital paintings.
UPDATE: New lessons are now being released and new content should be available about every other week.
Jon won't be able to wrap up the remaining lessons of this course. However, we've put together a team of digital painting instructors to take over and finish this course. We selected artists that specialize in each remaining topic.
The course is broken up into two sections with four distinct "parts" altogether. By purchasing "Digital Painting Fundamentals" and "Illustration & Advanced Techniques" you will have full access to the entire course once the lessons are available.

To get the most out of this course, you will need access to a digital painting software, but the choice is up to you!
I personally use Photoshop throughout the course but nearly everything that is covered is applicable to most other painting software, like Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, Corel Draw, Gimp, & Infinite Painter.
Please keep in mind that we can not offer technical support for any software questions."
