Follow the steps below to practice generating ideas for your project using the ideation process discussed in the video.
Prepare Your Materials:
Gather a stack of blank cards or paper and a pen or pencil.
Ensure you have a quiet workspace or studio to focus.
Optional: Keep a sketchbook or phone handy for recording spontaneous ideas throughout the day.
Start with Questions:
Write down a list of questions about your project. Focus on what you need to figure out, such as themes, materials, or methods.
Ask questions like: "What do I want this project to look like?", "How can I execute this idea?", or "What new techniques can I try?"
Generate Ideas:
Using your cards or paper, quickly jot down or sketch any ideas that come to mind.
Don’t focus on quality—simple, rough sketches or notes are fine. The goal is to capture as many ideas as possible.
Let one idea lead to another through free association. Be open to unconventional or impractical thoughts.
Draw from Experience:
Think about memories, past projects, or techniques you’ve seen other artists use.
Consider how those experiences can inspire or inform your current project.
