Ugh, really struggled with the tertiary forms, maybe couldn't see them well on the photo and don't know the anatomy well enough to just know them.

Overview

In this project, you'll analyze the three-dimensional form or volume of your subject by drawing section lines on top of a reference image.

Example

Steps

  1. Download the project image below or choose your own image.
  2. Print the image or open it in Photoshop.
  3. Draw on top of the image, indicating the forms with section lines.
Important: in each pass, draw the section lines at one level of abstraction: big forms, medium forms, and small forms.
  4. Upload your result.

Duration

This project should take 15–30 minutes to complete.

Hierarchy of Form

Meet these Challenges

  • Show the perspective of each body part.
(Is the form coming towards you or going away from you?)
  • Keep even spacing between section lines.
  • Don't overdo it. Fewer section lines are better than too many.

I wasn´t sure of the direction of each appendage, if it was looking away or towards the camera. I also struggled with how to show the form correctly with the detailed section lines.

Looking for some input on the perspective on the legs and arms, specifically for the limbs receding from the viewer and the pelvis. Since the pelvis is tilted in the opposite direction of the torso, it becomes a bit tricky to decide whether to find the perspective from the ASIS landmarks, or relative to the torso... usually, I imagine were I would be with my own eye level at the scene and go from there. Here, I see some other solutions. Grateful for an explanation!

Hello, here is my section line practice. I feel…small forms are not easy to draw.
