In this demo, I guide you through sculpting the bones of the hand, starting with a wire armature and a plywood and metal stand. I use sculpting wax similar to microcrystalline wax, which sticks well but is tricky with tools. I focus on shaping the radius, ulna, metacarpals, and carpals, emphasizing covering the armature with a thin clay layer for support.

Hello Andrew. Okay, I finished my skeletal hand study for the Hand Sculpting course. Here are a few photos from beginning to end. I used polymer clay (Sculpey) as you suggested so I now have a permanent sculpture to use as reference. I think I will sculpt the muscles and tendons assignment right on top of this one in an oil base clay that I can remove later and keep this skeleton. I added a thin layer of polymer clay to the wire armature and baked it first. I've found that additional polymer clay sticks better to the clay than to the aluminum armature wire. Any way, please critique my work. Thank you.

Hey wow this is looking really impressive! I like that you went full size with the study and were able to compare it to your own hand. Nothing is standing out to me as disproportionate or off so I think you can go ahead and move onto the muscles! Great work!
