Copying artwork directly and claiming it as your own is theft. But being inspired by the mood of a piece, a color palette, a lighting combination, is something that can be used to help add life to new original artwork. The myth that you cannot use reference is something that hinders many new art students. I talk about how to extract light and color from existing images.
