I always enjoy your podcasts, Stan and Marshall! The discussions and questions raised are so interesting, and the art examples are great. 10! I like that the exercises you spoke of were limited to 15 minutes, not hard to fit into an evening. Thanks!

Stan and Marshall discuss the importance of understanding expressionism and the purposeful rule breaking that comes with the territory. They both examine the work of notable expressionists like Kandinsky and Mondrian, and share their own personal experiences and opinions on the movement. Marshall also includes a few exercises that can help you discover and implement expressionism in your own work.

Learn about the finer points of expressionism and how embracing it can help abstract and representational artists fill their art with feeling.

I would love to participate in a expressionistic drawing course. Is there any around?

As most always, I really enjoyed your discussion. Sometimes your 'bird walks' may get slightly off-point, but I seem to always enjoy them anyway. In one (or more) of your episodes, it would be interesting to see the artistic progressions and/or deviations you both have taken through out the years of you both doing your art. Thank You, Jim Dasher Spectrum Graphics Seattle metro

This was fun - good idea for quick daily warm-up in a sketchbook. Alas, this is on computer paper. Sorry, I didn’t give you a neck.

Great discussion! I would take a class from Marshall if we could put Stan in the back of the room. Picasso said in order to break the rules (of art) you must first learn the rules! Guest at a kindergarten art class to the teacher..." How do you train them to do such wonderful paintings?" Art teacher..."I just tell them when to stop!"

Another killer thumb @Alex Otis!

Goya's etching and some of his painting have a lot of expression and feeling to them.

That class on expressiveness Marshall was talking about (startng with random, unstructured effects as the basis for an image), is exactly what I'm trying to teach myself right now. I would love to take that class from Marshall.

Sweet, I will give it a watch later
