Pear Critiques are here!
Critique for the portraits coming Thursday, but I recommend level 2 students watch this critique video too. I give advice and demonstrate things that should be useful to both levels.

My attempts at the pear

It was so tempting to watch this video before drawing the pear.
I definitely need to work on simplifying mine further, while having a clearer distinction of planes. Outlined the different values. Took the “edge” instructions in a very literal way.

Great advices, I will review my drawings and search for the mistakes appointed. Just a little question. Can you told us where to get that brushes? Seems really good.

This was my favorite part of this project. The critique video was very helpful. I decided to try pear #2.

I drew the pear again after I watched the critique video. It was really helpful seeing the mistakes I was making pointed out.

This is my redrawing of the pear after watching the demo. Tried to think more about the planes this time.

This is my take on the number 3 pear after the demo and "some" critiques! This time I varied the pencils (limited to what I have of course) I used a B 4B and 5B. I also tried to use the tip of the pencil, fighting against my natural laziness lol.

I really like how you follow the roundness of the fruit with your lines. specially the first one on the left. it feels really dynamic, gives it some energy and makes it feel a little windy.
I think, maybe, you could have simplified the shape and the shading more. less roundness, more planes. sharper and harder transitions between tone. while it may look better i think it strays a bit from the intent of the assignment. Keep it up!

How did I do? I'm still working on mastering values so it comes easier/instinctive to me. *done in procreate*

First exercise- pear. Values need work, must learn planes.

My pear. I have tried some veggies before I used Stan's pear picture and often times I found it very challenging to distinguish between actual brightness and varying colours in the surface of the fruits.

Thank you for your feedback :-)

Yes! local value is rather hard. Very nice job here with putting down even tone.
One thing to note, the dark shadow on the pear is darker than the shadow itself. I remember from the picture those tones are much closer (and also if you study shading, often times that are will have bounce light that makes it lighter than the shadow as well)
