LESSON NOTES

What's in Premium?

I'm taking a different approach in this critique. Instead of focusing on rendering folds, I want to show you the thinking behind character and costume design. I break down how abstract shape language communicates a character's psychology and role in a story. You will see how squares create stable heroes, curves add appeal, and triangles build intimidating villains.

We will look at the Hero's Journey and analyze examples from movies like Star Wars, Pulp Fiction, and Lord of the Rings to see how these shapes work in practice. You will learn how to use this visual language to design your own unique characters from imagination. This approach will make your visual storytelling much clearer and more intentional.

Strong character design relies on abstract shape language instead of complex rendering. You can communicate psychology using basic shapes. We explore applying archetypes to costume designs so your art speaks clearly before you draw a single fold.
