Video Editor, Screenwriter, Cinematographer, and Artist with a passion for storytelling.
ASSIGNMENTS
For this assignment you’ll be shooting a simple short film. The story prompt is “struggling to stay awake while at work, and struggling to fall asleep while in bed.” The goal is to keep the final short film under 90 seconds long.
Outline
Start by making an outline for the story. Plan how you are going to visualize each moment. I encourage you to try acting out your ideas, don’t be afraid to be a bit silly.
What location(s) are you going to film at?
What is the work the character is trying to do?
How to show sleepiness?
How to show restlessness?
How does the story end?
Filming
The next step is to get a camera and film your short film. I recommend getting a friend to help you, either as your actor or camera operator. Otherwise you can use a tripod or other stand for your camera.
Before you start shooting, rehearse your performance so that it is mostly consistent between takes. Once you are happy with the performance, start filming. Get a variety of shot types and experiment with different camera angles. When you are finished transfer your footage from you camera to the computer you will be editing on.
