kid wandered in an abandoned mansion, but the owner's "pet" was left behind. I could use some critiques.

This is a great piece! Love the mood and story, excellent colors, very cool composition. I think you could heighten this with some value separation and shadows/highlights. Desaturating the whole piece to greyscale gives you and idea of how your values are working. We see a lot of the creature, and the boy is kind of lost in the darkness with no separation. You have established some really cool lighting conditions with the creatures eyes, so you could go with that idea, and drop the everything into shadow around the eyes like they're two headlights coming down the road at night. Using the eyes as the main light source will give you some motivated use of rim lighting to heighten the contrast between the boy, the creature, and the darkness. Hope this helps! Keep up the good work!
Wow, this is so cool. I have never really tried greyscale before. Thank you for this.
Im stll kind of confused with the seperation thing you mentioned, do you mind explaining it more?
This is so fun! Love the idea. Part of me wants the light to be a bit more dramatic. I think that could heighten the tension and create a bit scarier environment to reflect the kid's POV. If the shadows were darker, the beams of light creating higher contrast, and the eyes brighter they would really draw our focus to the center. Right now if I glance at the image quickly or look at it a bit out of focus my eye is drawn to the kid's foreground arm and the scales above the eyes. If you work on it more, please post again so we can see the results!
Hey, really cool design! What i noticed is, that the hands are quite small compared to the feet. And the kido looks to me like hes floating over the ground a little bit, would use some shadows there.
