Journey 5 - robo bean
1yr
@silentmoonss
This section was much harder then I thought it would be. Sometimes I can see a bit of the front plane and it’s hard to incorporate that within the box itself. The landmarks help a bit but Proko wasn’t all that helpful in regards to the pelvic region of the box. I’m focusing for today on these 5 poses. The last poses were the most difficult( trying to be less tame and break out more) because how the rib cage seems as if it’s bending inward wen I know the rib age doesn’t change its overall shape at all(sometimes the rib age looks as if it’s farther down from the neck making the figure appear taller and that messes me up immensely) so I’m a bit frustrated with this one. Really hope for some tips to make it a bit easier for me and also critiques please.

Hey silentmoonss, I agree with everything @Jesper Axelsson said. I just wanted to add that you can make these simple beans more fun and help understand how they work by thinking of them as flour sacks. By making it something a little cartoony, you can exaggerate it a little and it doesn't matter, because it's just a sack of flour. This will teach you all the lessons that the bean is designed for without getting too stiff and intimated. Just a suggestion that I hope helps :)

Cool! Yeah, the robo bean can be tricky! But I see some good stuff in here. If these are the first you've done, I'd say keep it up and do some more💪. Also check out Stans example demos. Mimicking him and seeing how he tackles different poses will help a lot. - Keep an extra eye out for proportion. You tend to make the ribcage too short. The height of the ribcage box, is kinda twice the height of the pelvis box. - Start with a bean first, then add the box on top. Thinking about planes can be too much to handle in the beginning of a drawing. With the bean you get to focus on the overall volumes first. When adding the box you could look for landmarks and connect the dots. But rather, I would say, focus on encapsulating the volume, you want to describe with the box. This is for the same reason I recommended starting with the bean; macro first. Rather then building the box edge by edge, you think of it as an entire volume, then check so that it aligns with the landmarks. Hope this helps :)
