I think you have a pretty solid portrait going here! Your friend is going to love it! It's tough to comment without seeing the reference, but I'd say check your values. What first jumps out to me is the whites of the eyes are too bright for the rest of the value structure you've established so they jump out of the portrait a bit too much. Especially the highlight on the left eye (picture right) is cutting into the darkest part of the eyelashes on the upper eyelid which doesn't make it feel seated in the socket. The eyes are never truly WHITE, and are actually much darker overall than we might think. The other part that jumps out to me is the background is distractingly sharp and chaotic for how soft the shading is in the rest of the portrait. I appreciate the contrast of soft and sharp rendering, but the background reads as noisy, rather than helping to guide focus to the center of the subject.
Take your reference and look at it with the Value tool and see where you can adjust with an eraser, or adding a darker value to pop specific features.

In general, its always a safe bet to darken the upper eyelashes and pupils, inside the nostrils, the deep corners of the mouth, the upper lip, under the bottom lip, etc. I did a little draw over to show the areas you could darken, but again, without the reference, or what you're going for this is just a suggestion! Also check out this video from Dorian Iten on Shading, I think it will help! Keep up the good work!
