I found interesting the little details at the end of the tail. Maybe the photo itself looks a bit over saturated.

This gesture feel very fluid! I think you could benefit from using some cross countor lines in your gestures.

I tried some 30 second poses after watching the first video. I mainly tried to focus on making quick lines without any consideration for form, so I can just bang out the gesture quickly. Any advice/critiques would be very helpful!

I think it could be a good idea to spend some time studying the gestures that Stan does in the videos. So you can get a feeling of how to get the effect of movement those gesture have.

I suggest to do a lot more than this and combine 1 minute poses, 2 minute poses as well as analysing the poses without a timer. Ask yourself question like "what the longest action line I can find?" And so on. I my opinion is better do draw with different times in mind in the same sesión

Hi Steven! I have a question. At what point do you recommend to take this course? Can we begin to learn light and shadow from this course or is it better to learn it from another source before?

I think that you try practicing some other skills first before trying shading. Like line quality and basic volumens. After that come back to this lesson and try again it will be much more easier for you.

Hey ya creative souls! Here's my work-in-progress. It's a portable and versatile defence tower that can be deployed to protect the city from outside threats. For the whole concept, I also played around with the juxtaposition of soft and gentle elements (the flower) and the fatal and hazardous elements (the weapons). Let me know if there's any constructive feedback/ideas that I can work on. Thank you and good luck, everyone! :D

I like that iteration of ideas. I feel like a gun and flower can give a confusing sense of harmlessness and harmfulness which sounds nice to me.

Hi, I made some 1 minute gesture drawings and one to try to reduce the details. I hope that you can give me some feedback on my drawings and on what to I should pay more my attention on while drawing. Also if you could give some other advice on methods, how to challenge myself in gesture drawing, to get a better understanding of the human figure.

Good job with this exercise! I really like the ones with more structure, they feel a little stiff but i think you made some good choices at the moment of adding some structure. With the gesture exercises I think that you are relying too much in the contour specially in the legs. Although it might sound abstract the idea of the gesture is to capture the movement of the body and not the forms of the contour. Maybe this comments/exercises are useful to you: - Remember to use the CSI rule to keep your line simple, if the body if flowing in a more complicated manner construct that complexity base in this three simple kind of lines. - Although the 1 minute gesture is suppose to be done in one minute, you still can pause the time and study carefully your reference. Ask yourself what are the biggest lines in the figure, what describe better the movement of the body, and try to draw a gesture that you would like to obtain in one minute. Then you can come back to the usual practice of one minute gesture. - You can also play with the amount of line you allow yourself to use to draw the gesture. This exercise might help you think about how to simplify the the body. For example try to do a gesture using at most 5 lines. Hope these comments help you!

@persona937
here is my assignment. I had a little trouble drawing the looking up pose, particularly the part where the bottom of the chin is showing and the jaw is going back to the side plane.

I think this is a good practice. It is a good idea to study the proportions in detail before trying to do them more intuitively. You have some problems when the face is looking up. This is a difficult problem and way to go around it is to study references of facing looking up and trying to abstract the Lomis head from those references. Hope these comments are useful to you!

Hello there. I have been practising the frontal view for some time now and I think I am satisfied with the one I have right here. I still having trouble adding facial features, especially the ears and eyes and the hair is kind of a mess as well, but these are not important at the moment. As for the style. I am not going for realistic approach. More like anime/cartoon- ish style So, what do you guys think? Any feedback is welcome. Thanks for taking your time looking at my drawing.

Hi Chaye. -I think that it is better to have a bunch of examples to give you a proper critique. - Even if you go for a cartoon style to draw the Loomis head correctly will give a strong foundation to build your caricature. - Your drawing looks fine, it has a good line quality and the hair looks convincing. As I said above it is difficult to give proper critique if you show few example and you are not practicing the exercise as they are described. In any style you will benefit from learning the basic correctly. Hope this help you!

Hi, this is a good practice! I think you have some difficulties with the angle between the side plane and the front plane when drawing the loomis head at 3/4 view. A good practice to do to fix this is to draw boxes using the picture as a reference.

I think that is a good practice so far. I have some comments that might be useful to you: - Frequently it is better to focused in really specific stuff. For example you can practice a lot the Loomis Head until you feel some confidence with it. Then you move towards the features. - You might benefit from practicing your line quality. At this point it seems very chicken scratching. You can practice your line quality in your warm ups. Getting a better line quality is not only going to improve the appearance of your drawing but also your ability to understand what you are drawing. When practicing the Loomis Head it is important to understand that you are given a simplify 3D version of the head and so you need to give a clear division of the basic planes of the head. Hope this comments are useful to you!

I think that this course can be a little advance if you are a total beginner. I think it can be a good idea to learn some general fundamentals first. I think that a good place to being is the Draw a Box and around the Lesson 3 in that course you have enough fundamentals down to begin with this course.
