Looking for critique (specially on abs when they bend)

Also, I keep hearing and reading in educational material that you should "draw big". But what exactly is drawing big? What is the standard in cm?

I don't think I've seen it that often. Can you go back to some of your material and let us know how they elaborated it? They must've explained more than just "draw big" right? My guess is they mean to draw from the shoulder. A lot of beginners draw only moving their wrists or even fingers, producing wobbly lines. When you draw using the shoulder or the forearm, the line is smoother but inevitably the drawing would be a little bigger than if you draw from the wrist. If you look up Proko's video on this: https://www.proko.com/course-lesson/how-to-hold-and-control-your-pencil/assignments

I've seen it mainly on books, but yesterday I watched this video https://youtu.be/FW0-ygwYCSQ?t=78 which made me question how big is drawing big.

Good session, I love that you are consistently writing and giving yourself notes on what to improve. The gestures are going well. Keep it up, this is the way to learn. As for the man, the rhythm never goes through the bottom of the calf, it’s either the outside or the top. The last version is better. I also thought it was great that you realised that the figure would fall. Here is a little tip on gravity to avoid figures falling.

Hi andipandi, the gesture is quite correct, in the female figure you continue the gesture of the lower leg leaning forward in the foot as well, it ends in the big toe in a single curve, do you see? , in the male figure you have exaggerated a little with the bean but you have captured the movement very well. The bend in the abdominals is correct but for the rest there's a bit of a long way to go and for now I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. In the anatomy course there is a good lesson on this subject that will explain everything you need. :) Take one step at a time. (These poses from Croquis Café are nice, I haven't checked their site for a while -since Figuary- and I hadn't seen them yet)

Hey andi. 'Drawing Big' means that literally: grab the biggest piece of paper you can and draw as big as you can on it. Generally the idea is to get you drawing using your shoulder, to allow for bigger, fluid lines and avoid 'chicken-scratch' drawing. It also feeds into the idea that you draw the biggest shapes first and work your way down to detail. It seems simple but it's a hard process to master. For your images here, I'd further review the robo-bean and mannequinization (forms). It looks like you're seeing the contours and 2D image without fully understanding the depth of the volumes. Review the forms of the body and particularly the side planes to understand how wide they are. Your more detailed torso drawing has the abs bending ok, it's just a matter of more practice and observation while understanding the anatomy further Also don't worry too much yet, as you're working on gesture it's hard to also get proportion and measurement right at the same time, but build your understanding as much as possible among your practice. Hope that helps!
