Greetings friends! To make things short and sweet, I'm a digital art & animation student from Mexico with a passion for visual development and concept art for videogames. Below I've posted some of my favorite illustrations along with some work I did as the lead visual development artist for a student game project called Tleli and The Deep. I tried to show a variety of styles I can achieve. Any feedback would be amazing! Hope you all are having a great time at the Lightbox Expo!

Marshall opens Stan's mind. Alternative title: "Dammit Marshall!" Inspired by Marshall's hawk-like direct gaze to camera when he explains a point and his owlish wisdom, he had to be a bird of prey. Polychromos pencil on paper for the morphs, then into Photoshop for some extra drawing and general digital tomfoolery.

Damnn this one is so good. It's got to be the best thought out composition i've seen, and it also captures the essence of the podcast so well. Amazing!!!

Dear Community, let me introduce you to a wild species unique to Southern California. He rises tall and gazes on the horizon, foreshadowing the future of arts and education, eyeing for talent and goodwill. He is a highly cooperative creature, always ready to stand up for students in need. I mean, look at that ear shape, that cheekbone, that playful spark in the eyes, that noble posture... No doubt, it must be him — Meershall, the High Meerkat of Arts. Oh and hi, I'm Lex from Ukraine, and this is my first challenge submission Ever™. The illustration is quarter imperial, so slightly under A3 in size. I did lots of sketches, a preliminary drawing, and then the final piece. I love watercolor, Marshall loves watercolor, so it all made sense to me. I had a blast making it, so I hope Ethan and the community have fun viewing it, too!

This is so wholesome and I realllyyy hope Marshall sees this. It’s SO GOOD. The bottom geographical and anatomical studies of it give it such a cool explorer vibe too. I loooove it

Heyo friends!! This is my poster for an animated action / comedy film about me and my little brother! I am 10 years older than him (currently I'm 22, studying digital animation) and he is just about to turn 12. One of our favorite things to do, other than constantly tease each other, is have pillow and/or foam sword fights. We each act out a different character (I am always the antagonist of course), set up fun rules to keep it interesting, and overall it's a blast. With that said, after being stuck in quarantine with the little guy, this has been pretty much a big chunk of my life right now. Barely got it done in time with my college finals, but woo! Super happy with it. Hope you like it! And good luck to everyone and your amazing pieces! :D

Hi @Diego Garcia Figueroa, these are nice studies! I attached a brief paint over for one of your images. My paint over doesn't tackle every principle about painting, I mostly focused on your values and lighting since that is what you mentioned. I just darkened your shadows a bit to give the image a stronger sense of light. I also added more indication of light and shadow in the fences, just so that there is a bit of a stronger feel of light consistency in your image. So in general, I think what you could work on is making the areas in your images where the light hits a bit lighter, and making your shadow areas a bit darker. The stand alone character/portrait paintings are feeling a bit flat, and it's because you're staying in that middle value range. I would say your Cthulu piece feels the strongest because you've hit such a high range of light lights, and dark darks, and this gives it a better sense of lighting. If you can incorporate that range into more of your images then I think your paintings will feel punchier. Of course, this won't apply to pieces with more ambient lighting scenarios, but we'll get there when we get there :). Hope this helps! I didn't go that far into depth with brush strokes, so let me know if you'd want me to tackle that as well!

Oh wow! I am studying your paintover and I’m noticing exactly what you recommended! Ill definitely take your insight into account! I really like your brushstrokes and how they convey the mountain texture so well. Thank you so much!

Hello friends! I’d like to show you some value studies I’ve done during these past months. I’m trying to get better with my digital brushstrokes and lighting, and I think I’m on the right path. What do you guys think?

Well...you are waaaayyyy ahead of my gesture/figure drawing skills (especially my 2 - 5 mins one lol) so I don’t know what to say except your are nailing it ! Very clear and lots of weight in them. I like them a lot, good job !

Thanks! I also have been surprised with how much I've improved during quarantine. All it takes is to make a routine and follow through with it and do some gesture drawing consistently! I guarantee that after a month of these (daily or every other day) you'll reach an awesome level as well

Wow these are so awesome!! You have such a dynamic style, super appealing shapes. Really solid work, I just love looking at these!!! Especially those hands. If I had to say anything I noticed (nitpicking I may be wrong) but I think a few of your figures may have gotten a bit stiff, maybe too focused on the contours. But these are just 5 minutes or less so it’s bound to happen especially if your focused on getting appealing shapes, which is one of the most important things. 💯🙌 really nice line quality too!! The large majority of these look super dynamic, awesome.

Thanks! Looking over them I do see some of them could be less stiff and have more of that good flow. You are very right that I may have focused too much on detailing those contours and muscles in some of them

These are amazing! I really like the flow and confidence of the lines you use for the legs. The foreshortening and overlapping of elements in some I think are very well done too! Something that has helped me is to draw the same pose twice or even 3 times in a row! Could be with the same amount of time or less, but repeating it and iterating it can help you perfect it and find new ways of solving things. I know this is pretty much impossible to do during the actual session, but afterwards it's something that I have done which has helped that muscle memory!

Impressive drawings! You use your time well. However, since you asked, I would recommend you try to include fewer anatomical details and focus on proportions. I can not be sure to what point is a stylistic choice, so I apologize if your manipulation of proportions is in your full control.

Thank you! That blur between stylized vs realistic proportions has always been tough, but it is something I'm glad you brought to my attention :)

Hi. I only started recently and I'm struggling to do the extreme angles. Also struggling to draw a perfect circle too haha.

What helped me at the beginning was to try to do these in quick, clean lines and really force myself to think WHY i was placing a line. What I mean was, instead of drawing the circle and keep on circling the pencil around and around it, or doing these scratchy lines, was to really aim to get the right line and the right circle with ONE or 2 clean strokes. It was hard at first, and it forces you to really think about each line before you put it on the page. Hope it helps! :D

Hello good friends! I figured (pun intended) I'd share my most recent figure drawing practices as my first post on Proko 2.0! These were all done during the past 6 months, and for the most part are between 2 - 5 minutes. I'd like to hear what you guys think I can improve on and if possible to also see your own! Thanks in advance, and have a great one :)
Diego Garcia Figueroa
I'm looking forward to diving in and exploring every nook and cranny! Thanks for everything you do Proko :D
