LESSON NOTES
Draw along with Patrick as he discusses the pitfalls of tracing and copying. Here we devote an entire lesson to drawing a dramatic figure, rendered and toned using all our anatomy of style skills to create a powerful composition. All without the use of any projection or copying methods.
COMMENTS
Everything is connecting… I’m currently reading What Are You Looking At? by Will Gompertz, where he quotes Eugène Delacroix:
"Pedantic perfection without emotion kills the spirit. Art doesn't come from becoming a human printer or a ruler. True art needs a spark, emotion, and even a little imperfection—anything that brings a picture to life and makes something resonate within the viewer."
And in this lesson, Patrick says the sentence: “Allow yourself to make mistakes and put personality into your work. Mistakes show your thought process and give the drawing a human touch.”
I absolutely L O V E this.
Hi Patrick, I started the course and I am really enjoying it despite being new to drawing with charcoal. What brand of newsprint do you use in Australia (I live in Sydney)?
Thanks, Laurent!

Great video. I only had 15 minutes to sketch but I enjoyed it. Keep it sketchy!!! ✌️
