To begin this craft I zeroed in on the Loomis Head in clay as an introduction to portrait sculpting. It took me a couple of weeks to get the money for a course I wanted to take so while I waited I took advantage of all the free tutorials I could from AJ Keith. All I did was make Loomis heads over and over. I wanted to really get it. I’m closer.

A second shot at a quick Loomis block-in. I haven't try making the actual Loomis head, but I'm liking this quick exercises, they're quite intuitive and fun to do.
I'm working on a model, simplify the masses
I like the Loomis model since it is the favorite and best known basic form.
I’m surprised that there is absolutely no instruction regarding the planes of the head as shown on the Loomis Head, nor any instruction on measurements, proportions etc. Most disappointing.

Loomis head quick block-in. Think I might have back of head too large again. Will keep working on that. Enjoying the process.

Looks like a great improvement to me! Do you think you have a preference of the three approaches yet?
