So happy i found this community and site!! Couldnt have found Proko at a more crucial time. Struggling at life, overwhelmed by past mistakes, and intimated society's depictions of "success". I was starting to spiral down the self-hating drain again. I was lost in a bad place in my mind. I felt really alone and defeated. One day my therapist gave me a homework assignment, "I want you to paint your feelings." I wasnt prepared for the level of difficulty this task came with. Oddly enough, i really developed a passion for drawing and visual art while i was in jail. Being locked up in a 8x8 cell for 17 months really changed me; the way i see things, how i spend my time, and what i value in life. But I'd never tried to actually paint anything. It was really hard but i took advice from people online and sat, uncomfortably, for a long time with myself. It took me several weeks to complete the small 10" x10" "emotions painting" but i discovered a few things about me in the process and i had created something visually that i was really proud of! Well, that was two months ago. I want to just see if maybe theres something healing for me in creating visual art. Thank you thank you thank you for creating proko! My gratitude for this resource is unparalleled. #lifesaver #feelingoptimistic #somethingtolookforwardto #arttherapy

my first try, i had a hard time since im bad at shading especially traditionally. This is basically also my first portrait drawing ,i only learned how to draw the shape of the head which is with loomis method but i haven't practiced the other details of the face. im gonna try again tomorrow.

I’m not really a fan of pencils, so I did it with marker and pen. It looked decent until I ruined it with the hatching on the right side of the face. Still, I’m pretty happy with it. My portraits are pretty stylized but I tried to go with realism for once. Its also way more hatching than I regularly do. I do need a better way to draw the hair.

Hi everyone. I have been following Proko for a whole while now, I think 2+ years, and gushed over all the courses, never thought I could manage or take on any of the courses until this one came along but one small hurdle came along, I can't quite seem to get a schedule going. I am a beginner when it comes to drawing (well yeah, the course haha), is there any advice any Pro or anyone at all would be able to give me to be able to start on a schedule and be able to keep up with it? I searched countless YouTube videos and I cant quite seem to grasp a good method. Any help at all is appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

Use implementation intentions. Which basically is the intention to implement someting on your life. The formula goes as follows: I will (Activity) at (Time) in (Place). So yours you'd basically go I will Draw at 7:30 on my kitchen table. Time and location are two of the most common queues to start an activity. Might wanna set an alarm and to keep yourself really accountable before you go to sleep you can write in in your to do list so you HAVE to do it. Lot to uncover there but as long as you follow the formula I gave you and add it to your to do list you sould be good. Also give yourself a reward after you draw so you're compelled to do it again, watch a cool show or eat a snack you love. Cheers.

I struggle with this as well. What I've begun to do is this: 1. Set clear goals for every study session. So when I have time, I make the most of it. 2. Study on the go and always carry some pens and a sketchbook with me. 3. Set a roadmap with several current and future goals.

I started waking up at 5 everyday to draw. My goal was to do it a month and here we are 3.5 months later (I started drawing Oct 1). I love it. I’m up before my family and all the craziness and it’s so peaceful.

so as I was explained: "The Drawing Basics course is an "in production" course. Meaning we are actively producing content week by week and new lessons will be released on a weekly basis for the next 18 months or so. This varies from the bulk of our other courses as the majority of them are completed courses no longer in production. So yes, material is limited at the moment. While the pace is slower and more deliberate, it is also a unique time to become part of the very fabric of the course itself. There are opportunities for real time interaction with Stan and the chance of being included in critique videos."

Back to school! This is the first try of the level 2. Indeed, it's actually harder than it looks :) I think it's a bit too messy and I just see that I have not enough quantized my greys values. Too many levels. I won a second try. -> Make things simpler -> Focus more or global grey values than details

Ok here a second try. I tried to merge closest greyscales values together to appear more flat and I try an other approch to construct the head. I think it's look a bit closer to the ref.

My attempt at pear. Relatively happy with ability to draw what I see. Think improvement can be made in the outlining of the shapes. Currenty too thick. Would be better to have the edge be defined by just shading/color. Especially on right side.

Improved version IMO. Taught me to not outline shapes to much in a cartoony way. Make outlines based on shapes/colors.

My pear! Spent about 40 minutes on it. Always been interested in learning to draw (mainly to make different DnD characters and scenes come to life) but never bothered to really go for it until now, so I'm very much a complete beginner. Looking forward to more assignments!

Tried the portrait as well, took about 3 hours and there's some room for improvement but happy that I tried and finished it!
