This video and the previous one had a lot of insights on how to paint specific things. I don't think I would've ever thought of them on my own.
Even though I feel like I know about all these tools (layers, blending modes, brushes ...), I've never really seen someone with experience use them and talk through their thinking like this. You have applied them on so many different materials and solved so many different problems in an elegent and concise way. It was very valuable.
There are a lot of things to take away from these 2 videos and I've already seen myself coming back to the previous one to see how you rendered this or that part multiple times.
Thank you

I will show you how to take an existing painting and completely alter the design from your imagination. You will see how a smart layer structure makes massive changes fast and painless.
We will start by sketching quick thumbnails over the original art to plan the new design. Then, I will walk you through swapping out major elements. You will learn how to use clipping masks and locked transparency to change hair values and replace fur with feathers without ruining your silhouettes.
I also cover how to paint translucent materials. You will see my process for creating liquid blood effects and a glass potion bottle using Linear Dodge. By the end of this lesson, you will know how to organize your files to give yourself total control over your digital paintings.
coming back to your old work after you learned new/better ways of doing stuff is tough. this one has 99 problems and most of them are value-related. Had to end it because my computer was choking on the file.
Thanks Jon the material is really good! I am picking up some great tricks. It's awesome to learn the workflow that you use to make your paintings. This piece was a fun challenge and next I plan to go in and create an alternate version and then color them.
Here is my go at the last 2 layer assignments. Done in Procreate. This was exactly the lesion I needed to push myself to use layers in an efficient way. I'm still super slow at it though.
Hello Sanjanart and I hope you are well. I think determining a Line of Action would be helpful for your gestures. One way to find it is to find which parts of the body are bearing weight and loosely draw a line through them to the head or another convenient body part. As for the chest area or ribcage try thinking of it as a bell or an egg shape. You could even draw it as a boxy shape. Sometimes it tilts in the opposite direction of the pelvis like in your first image. Look up “Contrapposto” for a better idea. As for curves and angles try to have them follow or emphasize the forms of the figure you are drawing. I think you would find the book, Force: Dynamic Life Drawing for Animators by Mike Matessi, very helpful for this and for gestures in general. Some knowledge in anatomy also always helps. I’ll try to post a drawing that will hopefully help you too. Best of luck and keep up the good work!
